VM version is more leaned to Allied side. The standarized values don't fit well in this battle (IMHO), german armor melts under Allied HA and german infantry causes very few casualties on the Allied.
I've played this campaign against very experienced players and as Allied never reached 80 turns, by then there's simply no german army.
Keep in mind OOB and PDT values weren't modeled for 750 turns long GC.
However stock scenario is a bit old right now, I'm working in a new GC scenario but I'm years from finishing it.
If I must pick one I would pick stock one. (I'll miss a lot of features from VM version but in the end stock one is more balanced).
