The Brits employed a two-row line formation instead of the three rows used by everyone else. The British troops had improved their marksmanship and fire rate during the American Revolution when they ran into the better aimed fire of the colonists. They found that the 2 line could fire at the same rate as the 3 line formation but with 50% greater firepower and frontage.
