Yes, the Russian push into northern Finland and Norway. The set piece battles, special forces, naval landings, and maneuver on a big, detailed map... Source material is Russian and US staff studies of the operations.

I realised I know preciously little about this operation...



During this operation, the Red Army moved deep into Finnish Lappland, with strong forces. From the Finnish point of view, the situation was still very very tense despite of the Sept. 1944 armistice with Soviet Union. The Lappland needed to be cleared of Germans (200 000 men in the area), according to armistice treaty, while the Finnish Army was to be downsized to "peacetime strength" of 60 000 soldiers. Any failure, or "issue" with progress, and the Red Army would be available to help Finns...

Children's Crusade, as the War in Lappland was to be known, because of a mainly conscript army... Our third part of WW II, War of Lappland, begun in Sept 1944, ended in April 1945...

Have you read it, any good? What would be your recommendation for the one, definitive book about the subject? :)

Ha, can almost tell you the serial numbers on the individual tanks.

What, what you mean, almost? I do know the serial numbers of individual (Finnish) tanks that participated in my coming scenario ;)
