As someone who has played a number of Curt's DEI scenarios in the last year or two (part of a ongoing RS cycle with Hawk), many of these scenarios are winnable by the Allies even if the battles they represent were hopeless.

Curt does a good job at tweaking victory conditions, map size, and # of turns to make the Japanese sweat these out. I'd say that in Curt's DEI scenarios, we're about even in the win-loss count and we've had a bunch of draws. There's been a few blowouts, but not too many.

They might not be everyone's cup-of-tea (many/most are infantry heavy with little artillery and few tanks/vehicles), but overall they are fairly balanced, on average.
