RE: BATTLESTATIONS! (Need 1939 scenarios) The World in Flames Tournament - The Prelude
The Abyssinians...to use the nomenclature of the time.... carried the traditional spear and sword, but also a mishmash of firearms many of which were muzzle loaders. The senior feudal lords....the Rases who controlled the provincial levies, had some arty...much of which had been captured 40 years before in the great victory over the Italians at Adowa...up to to 75mm. A few mortars also They had a small number of MGs and some AAMG (20mm).
The rapidly developing central army, formed around the Zabanga (Imperial Guard) had modern rifles of varying make and calibre, with some MGs and some field arty up to 75mm, mortars and AAMG. The determining weapon of the war IMO was the Italian mustard gas, mostly airdropped.
The Emperor Haile Selassie was normally accompanied by some Oerlikon 20mm, which he fired at Italian aircraft.
