RE: Prof Hew Strachan
I know that the Tillercon events took a lot of work to pull off. Maybe some day again.
Prof Strachan talked mostly about the upcoming 100th anniversay of the start of WW1 and whether it should be "commemorated" or "celebrated". His story of how Armistice Day/Veteran's Day started out as a celebration but changed into a somber commemoration. I'm sure the WW1 Museum will have plenty of big events planned for 2014 and the following 4 years. Prof Strachan was aked what he thought of the museum and he praised the international aspect of the museum in that it did not concentrate solely on the US involvement - although the US part of the war is covered. I would say that 3/4 of the museum is dedicated to the European part with about 1/4 devoted to the US participation. The Prof is on the chair of the redesign committee of the Imperial War Museum for their WWI anniversaries and he compared the US museum's focus to that of the IWM's which will be heavily British centric. Not a criticism - just the way it is.
My son has already asked if we'll be going to the events in 2014. I plan on attending but I'm sure one will have to make reservations for accomodations well in advance.
