Being that I was a section commander in the infantry for 6 years, and a driver/gunner in tanks for a further 6 I feel I have a grasp on these tactics, at least more so then someone who has never done either.
I have been using standard 1 up/2 back or 2 up/1 back tactics, then fire and movement but the enemy never misses in this game. I have also noticed that the leader seems to great clobbered rather quickly.
Thanks for the replies.
Do you not think you are rushing to judgement? We know nothing of the scenario or scenarios you have played with these results. We know nothing of the terrain you are attacking on. We know nothing of the force structure you are up against etc. etc. yet you insist this game doesn't do real life tactics justice because you lost. I beg to differ.
Perhaps the scenarios or terrain you were playing on were just piss poor for attacking in? Perhaps the scenario was a badly made scenario? I myself have run into scenarios so bad it was impossible to win versus AI and especially human. I've also played scenarios against the AI and especially humans which have been nailbiters to the end.
There are so many good AARs out there from real life veterans showing how good this game is...how real life tactics can be used. If you like, I'll even list links to them here. IMHO, they are the best source for learning how to use the engine to play a proper tactical battle. There are so many factors in this game which make it a decent simulation of tactical combat. It is not an easy game, it takes time to learn it. You stated you were in the real infantry. You don't need lectures about tactics then but you probably are having trouble understanding the terrain in the game engine, for example what is really giving cover and concealment? How does LOS work with terrain cover etc., how the C2 works in this game and how it is so important to cohesion of units in the game.
Winning in this simulaiton is like cooking. So many ingredients are needed in the right amount to produce the positive end product. If one ingredient is forgotten or mishandled, the taste of the meal could end up being bitter.
