I am building a few Soviet '44 Rifle and Guards Army Corps for a new scenario so your timing is perfect.

I will need to have a closer look at this come next weekend when I've got more time to do so.

Meanwhile, did you find a lot of differences in comparison to MCS 1.3 Soviet OOBs?

HI

I wouldnt say there are huge differences they seem to have got all the basic units right but I'll point a few out

MCS has Tank brigades with 3 company tank battalions and that is incorrect. That wasnt implemented until after the war. Thats not to say there were none but clearly in the very very small minority and I would say those brigades most likely had only 2 battalions....

Another interesting difference was MTR companies were actually mixed with a SMG platoon so the MTR Battalions were a lot more streamlined then in MCS. Guards Rifle Division rifle company/s had SMG platoons in them....

Rifle Corps are pretty generic in MCS but in actuality were much better balanced so I followed the Red Army handbook on constructing those.

The hardest aspect was getting the STAVKA Artillery units right. Theres a lot of them and keeping track of there names was quite a headache but after finishing it was like...a holy f++++ck moment...The Russians really love their artillery!! It became really apparent that Soviet Artillery units were quite sophistcated and from building the Rocket Artillery Division I came to the conclusion that any German unit that was on the receiving end of that unit would be sucking big donkey balls on that day....heheehe

For army level organizations MSC either they didnt have the information or for games sake they just threw either everything in or nothing in and let the designer make the choices...my guess is the latter is the case

Russian HQ units are now in the game starting at battalion level where as before there were none. At battalion level they have little combat value and are mostly represented by a scout squad and 1 or 2 transports one of whch represents the signal units. Regiment and up they start to get bigger and have more combat value. HQ Staff brigade and higher are represented by a Security platoon since those particular Russian HQ units had nearly a platoon sized unit providing HQ security (I believe it was something like 27 soldiers)

Russian company HQ were not represented at all but did have a small combat value and these are represented by a scout squad. The Russian mentality on HQ units in lower echelon units is low numbers, low admin..just the basics and for those purposes you will find the Scout Squad often labled as HQ Staff all the way from Company to the Regimental level

Theres clearly a shift towards firepower in the 1944 TOEs probably because many Rifle divisions were rather permanently understrenght. Just like the Germans the Russian made up for manpower shortages with firepower..hence the higher preponderance of SMG units in all Tank/Motorized units and Guards Rifle units. I really think another year or two of war on the East till 1947..I dont think the Russians would have been able to make it...

hope this helps
