On another development, Rommel had his halftracks set on surround+capture Montgomery's HQ assets, but with another stroke of bad luck, the variable visibility snag (El Alamein was before 2.00, remember) caused the visibility to improve upon Monty's turn, and all Rommel's halftrack fell victim to British tankers.

If only Rommel had moved second, and left that halftrack manoeuvre to the end of the battle. Then the British tankers wouldn't have been able to fire at them, because the battle would have been over.
