Though his posts were not the most articulate, his point is valid.
If he buys from JTS, he can download a patch at any point.
If he has bought a game from HPS in the past, he either has to hope that (usually with a significant delay) a game is updated or he has to e-mail someone to get the patch.
Though I do not suffer from this problem as I'm relatively new to John Tiller games and have only purchased from JTS, the way customers have to obtain patches from HPS isn't customer friendly.
Considering that the differences between the versions are described as minor, I don't see why updates can't be provided for the HPS version instead of hundreds of people having to e-mail Rich Hamilton all the time to obtain something that is there (otherwise updates couldn't be given to those who e-mail customer support, after all), but which is for some peculiar reason not available on the HPS website.
I have only praise for the actual customer support given, but the hoops people have to jump through to get a patch for HPS titles are not encouraging. If this is caused by the combat residue of mister Tiller now selling through his self-named company and leaving HPS's distribution channels, it's harming legitimate customers.
Incidentally, this is one of the problems with Digital Download services that make part of the community wary of dealing with them: the moment support is dropped and moved elsewhere, it becomes difficult or impossible to obtain the latest version of a product you paid for.
