Just my 2 cents.

I enjoy Japan 45.  It's a real slugfest though.  

Pros:
1.  I believe it does a good job of representing the attritional fighting that many historians believe would developed during an invasion of the Japanese mainland.
2.  The American forces have a ton of firepower, including rockets, naval guns, massive airpower, and heavy tanks and heavy weapons.
3.  The Japanese forces are not as well-trained or well-equipped, but they more than make up for it by using the terrain and their desperation to resist the massive superior firepower of the Allies.
4.  It's a real slugfest.  

Cons:
1.  You have to get your troops off the beach as quickly as possible.  Stay on the beach and you'll suffer massive casualties.
2.  Don't expect maneuver warfare here.  It's a real slog/grind up and down the mountainous terrain.  There are tons of small villages, woods, and hills.  Don't expect to get from point A to point B very fast.  
3.  It's a bit like Sicily.  However, there are no fragile Italian troops that will help you by melting away into the good night.  The invasion forces will have to earn this victory.

I hope this quick summary of my experience helps.

 Forgot to ask.. is it geared towards AI vs Japan or will the Japanese fight a good defense?  Defending vs. human has always been a weakness of the Op camp series..
