Way too much to try and summarize, but very briefly the scenario itself is set with min and max vis ranges and a range of ground conditions, and things vary between the extremes. Hence why programmed weather using weather.dat is an optional rule. Sort of wondering here what you thought was going on, since you noted programmed weather was off.
The entire reason for programmed weather is to force it into narrower ranges day to day, and if you had programmed weather selected it appears conditions would be perfect for movement and air.
Thanks. Somehow programed weather got turned off and nobody noticed. We got 112 turns into a monster F 40 campaign and the game was ruined.
Can't be ruined simply by poor vis, right? It shows the impact of air in the fighting. But I have seen posts that the Germans are unstoppable so this in itself contradicts that
I'm a pretty good defensive player. In F 40 I know where the Germans are going unlike the actual commanders in 1940. Three straight days with no air-support reduces the German fun-factor for sure. Also I spent the whole game building bunkers. Need Stukas to bust 'em. But the reason a crafty and ruthless German attacker is unstopable in F 40 is that with default artillery rules the French have no firepower. The German player can and does over-stack with two infantry battalions in a single hex with firepower 25% stronger than any French defender. It don't take a genius to figure out what's gonna' happen. Only with "Alt" artillery rules does the French player have a chance. That's what we played with and with it, the French can dish out some punishment. I give kudos to the designer but my feeling is he's rigged the game to favor the Germans. Unless the French player really knows how to play D on a very large-scale strategic Army level the French don't have a chance, because; and said again, with the default rules the French have ZERO firepower.
