RE: Punic Wars 2 released by HPS on 1st July
(07-08-2023, 04:03 AM)Titus Wrote: 'Punic Wars 2' is more than just an upgrade on 'Punic Wars' and replaces the original version. Punic Wars 2 provides the following improvements compared with version 1 -
1 - Introduction of a new 2D view using black silhouette figurine icons on unit counters instead of NATO symbology giving the whole game a more realistic feeling of the period.
2 - Introduction of background music inspired by ancient history (composed by Tyler Cunningham).
3 - Punic Wars 2 covers an extended period of warfare compared with Version 1. The period now covered is 300 BC to 190 BC to include the First and Second Punic Wars, the Mercenary Wars waged by Carthage, the Pyrrhic Wars, the Gallic invasions, Antiochus III and the First and Second Macedonian Wars.
New features include -
- Six armies available with the option for any one combination of armies to combat any other combination. The scenarios are not confined to playing Rome Versus Barbarians.
- Improved chariot warfare - chariots can now pass through infantry not in a solid 'Line formation'.
- Scenarios allow for gradual changeover from the earlier Roman phalanx formation with long spears to the legionary manipular system with swords and heavy javelins.
- Improved AI play. When the AI is the Roman player, it is more aggressive.
- Menu option to place Unit Information Boxes on the far left hand side of the screen. Default is to locate these boxes on the far right of the screen. You can Drag and Drop these boxes anywhere on the screen.

Wow, didnt expect to see these games being worked on /updated!
Couple questions as I already own the older Punic Wars. Your blurb above suggests this title goes thru 190 BC. So can I assume the battles of Cynocepheli and Magnesia are included? ( if so the HPS website should say that!)
The games are kinda strict on units available to armies, however If the game includes Magnesia can the Romans field ( thru their Pergamene allies) Cataphracts ie EHC w Kontos?
I hope you can continue thru 3rd or 4th/5th century Roman! Ie wars of Julian or Aetius would be fantastic!
