I totally agree with all the points made against adding the medics and all other various new units to the main core game (as in an official patch). I think it should mostly be left alone and played as is - the game dynamics are fantastic and I still play the vanilla versions the most.

I would however love to see a mod with everything in it - and there I would love to see the medics and civilians. I am having such a great time playing the K'talan mod that I can't believe it gets so little playtime. I also love the Nam mod and trying to learn how to play with helicopters and airmobile infantry against learning to use the VC and their mobility - all fantastic stuff made by very dedicated and talented people. So if someone wants to make a Extra Detail WW2 mod that has medics and civilians and dead bodies I for one am all for it, and I will be the first to play it.

Just like to also mention that I play the Korean mod too and it is also fantastic - sometimes you need to experience other flavors besides vanilla. We are lucky that we belong to such a diverse group of people who all have such love for this game platform and we should encourage the people who do have the time, skill and talent to develop it further. Ok, I am climbing down from my soapbox now - hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.

To me JTCS is not only a game engine but my favourite ww2 theme. So making any theme based on the engine is not up to my taste. Make it star wars, lord of the rings, korean, katalan or nam these are not the conflict I am interested in. Good to hear though there are people like Ashley who can enjoy it without the limits... Unlike me. :)

I am a big fan of your Cold War mod but need the menus and text in English (want that so badly). Stefan if you ever want to play a game of Cold War you need only ask me - I will find the time somehow.

Wow - Stefan, I had no idea - I guess my idea isn't that original. : ) And good work - i may check your mod out. Helmet Smile

To all those saying this unit is a kind of 'gateway' unit that will lead to all kinds of dubious function support units, chillax - all I'm suggesting (with combat medics et al) is a minor support unit that will assist with morale and disruption.

The thing about negative point value is something I mentioned because I want folks to think outside the box. Obviously I discourage any kind of gamey play - besides, we know better than that, don't we? Besides, even if someone kills an enemy medic while assaulting a hex containing a medic, the player with the medic still loses his medic. Personally, I'd rather have have a medic than a handful of victory points I'd otherwise gain for someone destroying it.

The primary raison d'etre is that officers who help with these functions are hard to find, thinly spaced amongst other units, or (if you play like me) you keep them with their HQ's for safety and to increase supply range of your HQ's. Medical units would take over some of the function of the absent officers.

Let's not read too much into this - medical class units are just units that assist with morale and therefore disruption recovery, and comes in several different types. I'm just trying to wring the maximum variety and fun out of the game.

Well, unittext.txt containing the unit descriptions for F2 unit info boxes is a plain text file. Just back up the original, and then run a copy through Google Translate and place it to game folder. (I don't own DG but assume the basic mechanics are the same?)

Scenario descriptions, just open up a scenario you want to play with Scenario Editor, copy-paste the text to Google Translate, copy back, save. Then play.

Menus and platoon files that need encryption are another matter of course. There you would need the CW team.

But that's a start, right.

Too bad I don't own DG, this sure looks like one fine mod to play!
