First of all is there a FAQ about SP WAW on this site or board? I played SPIII a long time ago, looking to play the lastest version, but there seem to be so many it's confusing. What should I download/buy to have what most people on this ladder play? The basic SP WAW 8.2 and upgrade to 8.4?

Hello LeaderX

No, not really any FAQ's - you can check out a couple of web sites though..

www.matrix.com

http://linetap.com/www/drg/SPCamo.htm

There are about 5 versions of Steel Panthers that are played here.

Steel Panthers World at War (SPWAW)
Steel Panthers Main Battle Tank (WinMBT)
Steel Panthers WW2 (WinWW2)
Steel Panthers Enhanced (Mod of SPWAW v8.2 +)
Steel Panthers H2H (Mod of SPWAW v7.1 +)

All are available as free downloads. Matrix games has produced SPWAW General's edition, and SP Camo has enhanced versions of MBT and WW2 available for purchase.

The game's play no differently than the freebies, but have some utilites or add-ons that are not included in the free dowloads.

All the SPWAW games are based upon the SP-3 game engine, but there are so many enhancements that about the only commonality with SP-3 is the name.

The WinMBT and WinWW2 versions are based upon the SP-2 game engine. SPCAMO obtained the rights to the game code, and they have done a great job of enhancing the games far beyond the original design..

MBT and WW2 can be downloaded from www.shrapnelgames.com

The basic SPWAW game can be downloaded from www.matrixgames.com

The H2H mod is available exclusively here at the blitz, and the 'Enhanced' mod is available at www.spwaw.com

Thanks. A very informative post. I think I'm about clear now. Time to get used to the current game engine and then look for my first game!
