Yes, for sure. I would be a wee bit suspisous of anyone claiming rookie status that has over 100 games on the Ladder.:rolleyes:
Other wise you will wind up like this poor fella;
Or even worse;
While there is a variety of SP flavors, Chocolate ice cream isn't strawberry ice cream, but they both are ice cream.
As a hint, Recon. Then recon and just to be safe, recon some more. The AI WILL not set an ambush, nor try to trap you. The HI will. All game long, if you let him.
To steal an old joke, what are the 3 most important things in SP?
Recon, recon and recon.
2 ways to recon. The first and best is to put your scout team in an authorized recon vehicle (hereafter ARV). That is because anything that is listed as a scout gets a spotting bonus. Move your scout vehicle 1 hex and then right click in the hex it's facing then the hexes on each side of it's facing hex. When you are well and truly deep in Injun country , it's not a bad idea to right click in a 360.
NEVER crest your scout vehicle. Stop before the crest and dismount the scout team and the next turn they can sneak over the crest and earn those Princely salaries. Put your dismounts in a place where they can see something, if they live that long. If your ARV is really hauling ass, then it might be a good idea to wait a turn to get your fast moving flag unset before snaeking over the crest. After all, a scout that has been spotted is WORSE then no scout at all. If you are playing a devious bastard such as myself, I have been know to run the same M-48A1 platoon past a spotted scout a dozen or so times. Do you remember the western ( Trinity, I think it was) where the gunfighter lifts up his right hand, then when the guy he's fighting looks at that hand, he draws his gun and pokes him in the belly with it. Then when the guy looks down as the gun, he slaps him with his right hand and holsters his gun.. This routine goes thru several iterations.
That was a movie, but it's suprising how well some of that corny stuff works in SP.
The second way is to get your opponent to send you another set of files. That way you can recon by replay. This is considered bad form, and it's fairly easy to tell when it's being done.
I don't get to upset myself by this, but I suspect there are those that do.
