WinSP tech probs on laptop.
I don't know if anyone can help but i have told a friend of mine that used to play Steel Panthers years ago about the WinSP games which he was unaware about.

He has sent me an email saying he has some problems getting it running, if anyone knows of what may be wrong or has had similar troubles but fixed them, if they could let me know how they did it that would be great.

Here is his email to me

".....Thanks very much for info. I downloaded them, but for some reason I can't play a turn without a CTD... Tried full screen/windowed, tried Win98 compatibility, nada... either I CTD anytime when I am going to the next unit with N, or when I launch the turn after orders.
Didn't find anything giving me some light in the very complete manual...
May be because I play on a laptop and it doesn't like it.. no idea at the moment. But it was nice seeing them graphics again......"

Thanks in advance for any help.

cheers

RE: WinSP tech probs on laptop.
First thing - tell him to turn sound off (including mouse click).
There is a lot of info about tech support on Shrapnel forums if that doesnt help (including direct contact with game designers).

RE: WinSP tech probs on laptop.
The manual from camo says changing the resolution to as close as standard CRT sizes as possible might help...

RE: WinSP tech probs on laptop.
Screen usage seems to depend on memory. Most laptops AFAIK don't use standard memory, so it's expensive to increase, if it's even possible. IIRC, you can run WinSP on as little as 129megs, although I didn't have much luck until I bumped my Ram up to a gig.
Unless his lap is new, he most likly only has 64 or 128 megs on it. 1 gig lap tops were VERY expensive until a few years ago. Jumping from 128 to 256 megs would double or treble the cost, so most manufactures didn't bother.
Business aps are not RAM hogs like games are.
SOOOO.. to skip to the chase, run it in a window. The system should define the window size to best fit it's resources. This is in addition to the other 'cures'.
