Patches for the games

I'm pretty lame when it comes to anything but email, so I've got a question about the game patches:

I downloaded a DG patch (DG1.02zip) and put it in with the DG game. I then located the DG1.02zip file and "extracted to here"? Does this now activate the patch?

Also, can I now delete the (DG1.02zip) file?

Yes, as long as it extracted :)
You can check your version by clicking on the help/ about link in the game from the top menu (The "M" key brings this up)
