Bridge attack

Bridge attack
I don't know if this has been asked before but would it be possible to include some sort of bridge attack for air units. I think this a significant element missing from the games, more so in the later modern campaigns where such attacks are really a vital part of operational strategy in modern warfare.

RE: Bridge attack
That would be nice it would be even better if the whole air part of the game got modified, remember Nato Commander, u could set your air units for Air Superiority or ground attack and interdiction i believe. And u would lose some of your planes during the Air superiority and interdiction. It would be nice to be able to set your units to capture control of the skys and then switch toward a bombing/interdiction strategy.

We can always dreamcheers

This has been covered before. IIRC, the reason given for not allowing bridge attacks by air units is that it would be outside the scope of what an operational ground commander could do.

RE: Bridge attack
Well, that's a rather spurious reason.

So scenario designers would have to design the scenario with appropriate bridges already destroyed. The higher command already having ordered the brdiges to be taken out before the battle starts.

I can't think of any standard scenario, which comes with NGP, or any additional scenario which has done this. This would be something to keep in mind for scenario writers.

Well, maybe you can provide a historical example of where a operational ground commander; say a corps or an army level commander ordered an airstrike to destroy a bridge. To me, that falls in the area of "interdiction" which is already a function controlled by the computer. However, a good reason to the contrary can change my mind or, more importantly, one of the designers at HPS.

RE: Bridge attack
A tad off topic, I would like to see the arty/air strike by map change to separate buttons. I've read so many times of aircraft hitting targets of opportunity. Without that box checked, can't recon somewhere and airstrike without a ground unit with eyse on. If you can do otherwise, what are the parameters to do so?

In late August 1941, during the initial stages of the battle of Kiev, General Kirponos ordered all Red Air Force assets against a bridge over the Dnepr. Two IL-2:s managed to destroy the bridge with bombs, isolating the German 11th Panzer division for 10 days. (Osprey Campaign #129, page 58)
