Off Topic  Silent Hunter 3 community manual
I just found the SH3 community manual again.....i'm a happy bunny again. :smoke:

http://www.mysh3.info/shiii/index.php?title=Main_Page

For new SH3 players, i know there are a few now ;), this is an invaluable read especially if like me you play with all the realism settings on. The only thing you need to watch out for is if you use mods like the GWX mod which alter the vanilla gameplay as the manual is aimed squarely at stock SH3, any gameplay changes that you need to know about like real world gunnery, positive buoyancy and the new crew fatigue system are all covered in the GWX manual. :)

I can't seem to find a community manual for SH4, is there one i wonder?

Happy sailing. Shark2

cheers

RE: Silent Hunter 3 community manual
The manual in SH3 is poor, the manual in SH4 is downright useless. The game gives you missions but the manual doesn't describe how you go about completing the missions etc.

I play on 100% realism except I use the event camera because I like seeing the torpedoes hit. I don't know why they say that takes away from the game, not like it gives you an advantage or anything.

How did you stick those pictures into your threads?

Chris, go to www.photobucket.com and make an account (its free)

Then it will allow you to upload pics right off your PC to there and with a simple click it copies the code (there are several listed right under the picture) needed to display on any forums/site that you simply paste into your post. TheBlitz uses the img one in [ brackets ]

Picture is then displayed :)

The community manual is great and as you said the SH4 manual is a waste of paper and ink, and i thought the SH3 manual was sparse , it doesn't explain anything for people who want to play on realistic settings.

It's taken me about 3 days just to hit my first target on manual settings....and that was a fluke really. :whis:

Hope they can swim.... Shark

How do you clear info from the TDC and does SH4 have an attack map for plotting targets like SH3?

As for a targets speed i always use the 3.15 rule which i find more accurate than the stopwatch method. :pirate:

As for the piccies.......RedDevil said it all. Big Grin

RE: Silent Hunter 3 community manual
Determining target speed in SH4 is done the same as it was in real life. A track is taken to the target including distance and angle on bow. You can then lower your scope if you wish, and wait a certain amount of time. I normally wait about 2-3 minutes. You then raise the scope and once again conduct a distance and AOB to determine speed. This is a per real life and basically what they do in SH3 but manually.

Are there any good mods for SH4 that you recommend?

Tigger Maru and real fleet boat seem to be the ones to have. I am using TM myself, with Greenlamp, Oaks gauges, and less water limber holes plus Mavs camera mod. Best place to get them is here:

If you find you keep running out of fuel turn off battery charging. I just read about it and here is an example from my game. With charging on my range at 2/3 power was about 1300NM, with it off my range went to 9000+NM. Charging sucks up the diesel.

RE: Silent Hunter 3 community manual
I like the new crew sounds in the Trigger Maru mod, the AI is a lot sharper as well. This destroyer came looking for me after just a single ranging ping from my sonar operator.

Shortly after this a second destroyer joined him and they both finished me off in short order. :(
