c_Question Mark  Matrix Game: Guns of August
Does anyone here own this latest game from Matrix? I am thinking about picking it up and would like some opinions.

RE: Matrix Game: Guns of August
I can recommend it on this basis: I've played some games from Adanac Command Studies and they are the folks who designed this game. They used to be an independent design group but were bought out by Matrix. Their games are strategic games, and the ones I played were ACW and were lots of fun. von ege Big Grin

I have purchased it, installed it, looked at it and never touched it again. Sad. I had Vista on my computer, for about 12 hours!

No, just saying that I haven't even tried it yet so why was I in such a panic to buy it. Just cannot understand my reasoning.

Well this game is a topic that is always very interesting to 20th century wargamers! Who wouldn't be interested in trying to win with the Central Powers? I'm just surprised there aren't more games like it. If I didn't have Vista I'd love to play you! von ege Big Grin

RE: Matrix Game: Guns of August
It is a good game and stays true to the original board game.

It has been years since I played the board game and I forget if there was a way to research new technology (in the computer game one can research improvements for infantry, armor, aircraft, artillery, trench effectiveness, and also Storm Troopers).

The game system is designed to recreate some of the stalemate of WWI by making it expensive to purchase offensives for a HQ unit. By assigning an offensive to a HQ unit all units adjoining it may assault. As the game progresses you will find sooner rather than later that you must choose between either restoring depleted units or purchasing new units, or buy an offensives. You will have some fronts stay quiet for long periods of time.

RE: Matrix Game: Guns of August
I am interested in purchasing this game as well due to reading some good reviews and some interesting AARs on the Matrix site. However, I would be more inclined to purchase it if there was a ladder here on the blitz? Anyone else here have the game?

I recently finished three books on WWI by John Keegan, so thought about picking up a WWI game. However, since TOAWIII has WWI scenerios, it has been harder to justify.
