Some WW2 battlefield photos
I was exploring the possibilities of Google's Picasa photo albums the other day and it seems these are quite enhanced.
I uploaded some of my battlefield photos there and one of the nice features is that you can zoom in Google Earth or Google Maps to the position where the picture was taken.
The last couple of years I have been studying the former Maas front on the Dutch-German border and the operations that took place there. So that's where the pictures were taken.

RE: Some WW2 battlefield photos
Huib,

I saw 1 photo of a cylinder with what appears to be covered wire coming out. Could it be some sore of electrical system?

The pics are nice. Do you go alone or do you have buddy to go with you?

Also how far do you have to travel from your home to these sites?

THANKS FOR POSTING.

Jack

RE: Some WW2 battlefield photos
Jack,

The wire is more like the same material as shoe laces (probably impregnated is this proper english?)as it has have survived over 60 years. the 16 "wires" are about 1 meter in length or more each. My brother thought it could be something that had a parachute. A sort of starshell or something???

I do one of these trips a year together with my brother (Bernard is his blitz name), mostly at the end of february. The Ardennes are about 300 km from my home which is just too far for a one day trip. Well it could be done in a day but then it is hardly possible to walk 15 km or more. There are battlefields in Holland and Germany that are closer, but the Hürtgen and Ardennes are really something special.
