Mechanics of assaults question?

c_Question Mark  Mechanics of assaults question?
This may be a question only Glenn can answer, but i thought i would put it up for discussion on the forum.

As i understand it when a assault is launched against a hex any hexside modifiers between the defenders and the assaulting force are used, sounds ok so far. :)

Now am i correct that the actual terrain the defending hex is not taken into account, so there is no difference between defending a city hex to a clear hex against a assault, if this is correct what is the thinking behind this situation. :chin:

Foul, I believe this to be correct with one exception. Armor needs infantry support in order to attack at full strength when assaulting into non-clear terrrain. Otherwise, they assault at half strength.

Correct - say the assault is forest and the assault mechanism calls for the attacker to attack the defender and the defender to attack the attacker. As both take place in forest then the forest is a non factor in the equation.

OK so the thinking behind this is that if the assault is from a clear hex into a forest hex the fighting actually takes place in the defenders forest hex and so no side gains an advantage from the terrain.
Thanks Glenn for explaining that. :)

Exactly. You can reason it other ways but this was the design created for the engine originally by Tiller, Strumer ect.

RE: Mechanics of assaults question?
As pointed out in another thread on this subject, hex sides do matter. Streams, changes in elevation greater than 20 meters between hexes, AT ditches are some examples of hex sides that can make a small difference in the assault value of the attacker to cross over into the defender's hex for the assault to take place.

Is this good ground?
