I built my own, it doesn't work out much cheaper (if at all) initially but the advantage is you can more easily upgrade as the technology changes - you get familiar with the inside and the workings. I've had mine about two or three years now and I've kept it up to date no problem. It's much easier than it sounds too, they just plug together really. If you get a book like build your own pc they take you through it step by step.

Wow...what a coincedence..
I just built almost the same computer for my son last month..
(except for a better graphics card)

Asus P5KC motherboard 1333mhz bus
2 Gig DDR2 ram
Intel Core2 Dual CPU E6550 2.33 Gig
750 watt Strider power supply
Monolith gaming tower
Diamond Xtreme sound 7.1/24 bit sound card/Logitech speakers
GeForce 8800 GT 512MB dual video card

The rest of the parts I stripped from his old computer.
(Hard drives...Medusa Headset/mic...)

It runs like a dream.
I have a wireless network here and my son and I play Supreme Commander a few times a week. His graphics are breathtaking.
(His usual game is BF2142..with all his friends at high school that
started a clan...)

The whole conversion cost me about $850.00 at Fry's.
...and a day of labor/setting up the drivers....

Cheers,

Eddie
