MG 44 Campaign re balanced - Comments before final publication please
OK some of you may remember I played the EA 42 campaign to the end the introduced some changes to re balance it for PBEM

I have now done this for another campaign. These gamesare what I have called Real Life Scenarios ( because the have been payed fully PBEM not against the AI ) . Please feel free to make any comments especialy if you have played the campaign as I may make one or two further tweaks if need be.

This one is -

0917_05s: Market-Garden - Historical Campaign RL Version (Pole options)

Designed by Michael Smith based on the VM alt version many thanks

Notes:

you need the VM alt mod to play this scn

This excellent scn has been amended to fit my Real Life scn series
This scn have been almost fully played before making amendments. All amendments made are in the spirit of making the scn more balanced for PBEM play.

Here is the list of amendments which mainly favour the allies

1. Slightly reduced Axis supply level and availability ( most important )
2. Disrupted many Axis units in the landing areas to simulate confusion and slow reaction.
3. Moved some VP locations and improved others
4. Improved the morale of the flak 88mm units by one step and the Panthers of the 107TH Brigade one step
5. Slightly improved Axis front line defences
6. Stockpiled all set up allied Art
7. Added several more supply points for the allied paras to prevent isolation style attacks ( very important )
8. Added two more congestion points

RE: MG 44 Campaign re balanced - Comments before final publication please
If your intention is to make a historically correct campaign... then
one comment: there are errors in the oob.
If you can get a hold of "Das Fallschirmjäger Lehr-Regiment" by Bliss and Bosshammer, it will give you the correct oobs for KG Becker, KG Greschick and KG Hermann.
-KG Greschick did not consist of Fallschirmjäger.
-I'm also missing the Fallschirmjäger Lehr-Regiment (-) Which was an elite unit (liberated Mussolini from Gran Sasso)
-and I miss FsJ StuG Brigade XII (also elite mainly due to the presence of Panzer ace Leutnant Deutsch). Good to see FS Werfer Abt 21 in the scn. Wasn't that one missing in the stock?

The rating of the remnants of the FJD 3 and FJD 5 is too low IMO (Normandy veterans), while their number is too high. KG Greschick did consist of lower quality units however. I think the artillery for these KGs came from the 6th FJD and not the 3rd. Below is a text piece of the oob I made for a JTCS scn of the fighting east of Nijmegen. It is largely correct for 20 sept. 1944. Oh well I can look it all up for you if you like. I had abandoned MG44 since the map HPS made was, and still is so sloppy. We can correct all the stock oobs etc, but unfortunately we can't change the map. For me it stops then... but good luck with your project. Btw I only checked the eastern part, in the stock campaign there were also German units missing on the western side, leaving a strange empty space n/w of FJR 6.

I'd love to hear any more MG44 OOB changes you have. I've been in constant search for information for the last year as you may recall. I should have my CG version done this summer.

Thanks

Bob,

I remember yes.
Can you read German? The easiest way would be to just scan the appropriate pages from Bliss and Bosshammer and send them to you. (even that is a lot of work...)

I'll send over the info I have on these units to you, to Bob and to Edward (VM) as soon as I have time (probably wednesday). Then everybody is free to use it or not.

Thanks Huib!
Ed had already added some units to the OOB from my research, but not all.
There is lots of new research out there that suggest wholesale chanegs to the OOB. This was mainly due to the chaos associated with the hodgepodge German units. The website defendingArnhem.com and the new game Devil's Cauldron bring some to light. For example, the tank destroyers facing XXX Corps were not SS from the 10ss (they were near Aachen); they were probably from the 559th JgPz. Another... elmts of the 6th or 10th Marine btls actually began the battle on the Island between Arnhem and Nijmegen. Another ... your changes to the Feldt group plus lots more.

OK that would be good
Also you will need to put down suggested values and morale ??

Also starting hexes if possible- I am quite happy to add them if you think they are accurate . how about the alied oob do you think tahst fair

Remember my adjust ments were mainy aimed ar correcting PBEM balance not actually making a new scn but if there is lots missing as you suggest it looks interesting.

I will make a suggestion about quality rating of the various units if you like. And starting positions won't be too hard to find either.

I have not checked the Allied oob since it is much better recorded. I assume it is done correctly, if not by HPS then by VM later on I hope.
