Engineers, rivers & supply.
I was going to mail Glenn direct about this, but i thought i would put it on the forum for dicussion. :chin:

I don't know about everyone else here, but when the supply rules were changed i thought that a Eng unit flagged "with boats" could ferry and supply units (in a riverside hex) across a one hex river?

I just tried this in MG44 and my ferried units were isolated next turn, RickyB who knows these games inside out also thought they would provide a supply link, but i seems not.

There is no issue with hexside rivers, units are supplied no problem.

Maybe Glenn knows if having different Eng supply rules for the two types of rivers was intentional?

Well, even though it is directed to the forum and not me <G>

The change you are referring to was made to the engine. The changes file for Danube 85 says:

> Change to allow Engineers to ferry supply one hex across a river so that
units on the other side are not Isolated.

I've checked the D85 Game - both VST and EXP and it works as it is suppose to.

However, the above line is not in the changes.txt file for MG44 v1.05 or v1.05a - so - next update this game will have the change. So it is not a case of "having different Eng supply rules for the two types of rivers".

Thanks Glenn :)

So for a while we will have a "some do, some don't" situation depending on which title you are playing.

Some Do and Some Don't is pretty much the way it works for all HPS Games in all series. That is there is never a general release of all games, John Tiller preferrs to gradually publish updates in whatever order they are required. Mine you after a major feature, such as the AI chnages post Minsk, we tried to get to as many games as possible.

Lately we've been trying to briung everything up to the VISTA standard, but we did find something vista related in the first games that had the VISTA patch and we are working through those things now.

There was a post a while back on Helicopter units being immune to ground fire and I believe much of this may have been to do with values in NGP and not the revised values with the new rules in D85 - so I've just now got a patch for that Game - John was away so it was delayed.

I guess at that point I can look for games that have Major RIvers in them and see if those titles have the line in the changes.txt file for:

> Change to allow Engineers to ferry supply one hex across a river so that units on the other side are not Isolated.

...although I am not sure if this is more of a priority for non-Full water bridges like say France 40. In any case, this is not the sort of change that is major enough to warrant a general round of updates.

Yes i understand that you roll the patch's out across the titles over time, while there is no problem with this it is inevitable that there may be some slight confusion as to which title has which update if you don't check the "changes" file before you start.

I understand, no problem, as long as players know this is the case then they have the option to check the changes file.

But i bet there are players out there who think the rules are 100% the same for all titles and this thread should help alert them (i hope) :chin:
