Reverse the patch.

Reverse the patch.
So, there is no way to downgrade what version you have, is there?

I suppose I will continue playing the game (I did a bunch of reserch to pick this game as my ONLY turn based game) but it loses it's luster when what seems to be the most respected "old guys" (sorry) don't even want to play the game. I liked the old game fine. I sucked at it, admittedly, but I liked it a lot. I would rather play an "outdated" version against the old heads than the newest thing anyday.

Oh and this whole bunk assault thing is no joke. I have seen it with my own eyes.

To all the people who were envolved in the update: Don't take this personally, I am not mad, just a bit frustrated. To sum up what others have said, I don't think the game needed changing I was only expecting updates and new units/scenarios etc.

Ah well, I am so new here I don't have a leg to stand on anyways,

No matter how new, we all have a leg to stand on. Maybe not two legs, but....

RE: Reverse the patch.
I already like the changes better, playing just two games right now.

The old "surround-disrupt-capture" rules caused me to lose my passion for CS. The tactics became rote. There was never any question as to the outcome. I became bored. Now, the new rules make the player really grind on some decisions. How much do I assault with? How few can I get away with and preserve APs of other units for follow up attacks? How important is it that I succeed in this assault the first time? Do I commit the whole company?

Also, the old version seemed to me to make AT guns fairly worthless. Now, I feel like I need to be more careful when I force a road or bridge, or approach a town. That is all good.

I know I can only speak for myself, but I feel like I want to start some new games, and I get excited when I see a turn in my inbox again. It has been awhile since I could say that about CS.

RE: Reverse the patch.
I'm still getting used to the new assault rules - Jason has just posted that there are some issues with the assault code eg non-combat units issue, but so far after playing a few scens in RS against Japanese in caves (no more cave bug - cool!) , I'd say it's looking good initially and plays as I would expect IRL.

I'm another who can't stand the tired disrupt/surround/capture routine.

Now to try EF....

cheers

RE: Reverse the patch.
I've been going through the new tutorials. So far I haven't seen a wholesale change.

I quit PBEM with masters of the d/s/c routine. They will have to play the game a little differently now. I think that is good.

Havent seen the vis change yet.

Arty may be more effective. Mine isn't, enemy's is, lol. Only lost one tank to arty so far.

AI seems sneakier but could be wishful thinking.

:chin: Too bad. Something in the middle ground may have been acceptable to all parties. :conf:
The mess that was forced upon us is just not acceptable to all? I for one, and if I am the only voice I really don't care, think the new variable visibility and assault rules have changed the game, and not for the better. :(

If it does not get changed to something else if may no longer be worth playing?

I hope you guys really like what they did. 'Cause it sucks from what I can see.

cheers

Thumbs_Up  RE: Reverse the patch.
I agree with Nort and co. Under the old patch I recently lost a game after having about ten units of T34s surrounded and herded to destruction by group of half tracks, ACs and a couple of tanks in the last turn. That is not realistic. I lost virtually half my armoured force in six minutes to mostly half tracks. That's just absurd and I can't understand why people would prefer that just because it's familiar to them.

With the new rules the game is much more fun and challenging. I love most of the new units and hidden shooters etc. The new assault rules also make you think about things a bit more. I've found you can assault and cause sp losses without actually simply rolling over the defender. This seems more realistic especially if you read about how long some Russian defenders held out during the war against all sorts of odds. cheers

I agree there are a few glitches and some silliness with naval vessels and things. But this is either peripheral stuff or bugs that can be fixed. cheers

RE: Reverse the patch.
As one of the "old guys" who's backed out for a while until the assault debacle gets sorted, I feel I must stand up and speak my mind... I agree that the old disrupt/surround/assault rule was pants, I agree that the assault rules needed updating, I'm happy that there are programmers who are trying to sort it out.. I understand that the old rules put people off...... the POINT is, the new rules are just as bloody stupid, if not worse... you can't tell me that 2 full strength panzergrenadier platoons couldn't overrun a disrupted reduced to 1 arty platoon? or that a lone leader doesn't get captured when assaulted first time... it's pants - you can debate realismuntil you're blue in the face but the mnemonics for working out assault outcomes are plainly wrong, badly wrong. Don't try to make out people who have been playing for 10+ years like me don't like the changes because it spoils our command over others, that just isn't the case - I love playing new/blind scenarios against new opponents who challenge me, I don't play scenarios over and over again to "learn" how to win them (check my record) and I want to enjoy the game as much as the other guy. I hope this is clear enough.

OK?
