RESULT JUST IN

EKROMMEN 13, POS 83 (maj win for POS)

As my panzers advanced on the town with 2 turns left, the interfering computer decided to stop the game and surrendered Ekrommens units, it does that sometimes if one side's morale is low.
It therefore robbed his gun at the final flag of the chance to knock off a few panzers.

Neat screen shots as always!

And I will add, the MG Bunker seemed perfectly in the middle of the road, my game, and I was able to race Panzers straight down the road to either side of it. Maybe I just lucked out on the exact paths plotted, but they steamed ahead with no hesitation!

Hey mate i've been meaning to ask for a long time what the American phrase 'lucked out' means?
In fact Risnervich used it in a mail to me a couple of days ago and I think I misinterpreted it and accidentally offended him because he replied- "don't get bucky on me brother no need too".
In fact I don't know what 'bucky' means either..;)

Ach sooo..
Personally I believe we make our own luck; Lady Luck is a fickle witch and I don't need her, just as Macbeth said to the three witches- "I neither beg nor fear thy favours nor thy hate".

In fact when CM opponents say to me- "you'll win of course, I never seem to have good luck", I think to myself- "with an attitude like that mate you're already beat"

"Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference"- Winston Churchill

"Luck has a peculiar habit of favoring those who don't depend on it" - Anon

"Luck is not something you can mention in the presence of self-made men"- E.B.White

"The winds and waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators" - Edward Gibbon

"Luck? I don't know anything about luck. I've never banked on it.... Luck to me is something else.....realizing what is opportunity and what isn't" - Lucille Ball

"Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Luck is when opportunity knocks and you answer" -Anon

"Luck is believing you're lucky" - Tennessee Williams

"A person does not seek luck, luck seeks the person" - Turkish proverb

"I deserved my good luck" - Margaret Thatcher

"Luck is the residue of design" - Branch Rickey (US baseball player, 1881-1965)

"There is no such thing as luck. There is only adequate or inadequate preparation to cope with a statistical universe" - Robert Heinlein, science fiction author.

"In my experience, there's no such thing as luck" - Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi.

I don't believe in luck either...

But mathematically improbable,
chaotically concrescent,
nexuses of synchronistic coincidences... Why not?

Interestingly but not oddly, all the people I have personally known who are strong believers in 'lucky' as a separate quality of the individual like 'healthy' or 'beautiful' have been in combat. Otto Carius tells in his memoirs the story of how smoking saved his life. He had just lit up and had his head out when his loader asked for a light. Carius leaned down and held out his cigarette, and at that moment a Soviet 85mm shot took the hatch off. Dmitriy Loza
describes a strafing attack by German aircraft in which the only casualty was a man killed inside a tank with all the hatches closed. A machinegun round went down the tank's main gun barrel and through the open breech.

On a spooky note, Professor Gertrude Schmeidler ran a series of extra-sensory perception tests that seem to indicate our mindset can in some way affect this Matrix we call 'reality'-

"..average ESP scores of subjects who rejected any possibility of ESP success (whom I called goats) were lower than average ESP scores of all other subjects (whom I called sheep). This was inexplicable by the physical laws we knew; it implied unexplored processes in the universe, an exciting new field for research. From then on, naturally, my primary research interest was parapsychology"

RE: GREEN LIGHT TOURNEY
RESULT JUST IN

ANDRE 51, POS 49 (Draw)

Having racked up a big win in the first game, Andre played this rematch safe and didn't stick his panzers necks out; they cut the rail line here and only got a Draw, but it was still enough to put him top of the leader board..
(Noob note- why have I got my 45ATG and 25AA on short blue armour-arcs?- It's to stop them firing at infantry and blowing their cover, it's armour they're after. Furthermore the arcs are short and angled in a way to hopefully catch the panzers in their weak side armour. In the event, the game ended before either could fire.
Incidentally my Russian infantry are mostly on short arcs and 'hide', their job is simply to maintain a presence to control the flag or at least keep it neutral, it'd be senseless to order them to engage a powerful armoured force and get wasted for nothing. The strategy worked, they kept the flag neutral in the face of a crack panzergruppe)
