Player Profile #25 paulyj
What is your real name?
Paul Jones

How did you decide upon your Blitz nickname? Its a subtle variation...

What ladders are you represented on?
Only Panzer Campaigns. I've tried lots of other computer wargames, but its the only one I keep coming back to.

What is your favourite PC War-game?
HPS Panzer Campaigns. I am also a bit of Civilization nut (not a wargame, granted, but pure strategy addiction)

Who has been your hardest opponent?
Foul. He seemed to be able to read my mind as to what I was going to try next.

How long have you been a member of the Blitz?
About 3 months.

What War interests you the most?
World War 2

If you could choose to be present at one military historical event what would it be?
D-Day. The ultimate endeavour.

What is your favourite War movie?
Not a movie as such, but the HBO series Band of Brothers. I bought the DVD set and couldn't stop watching. Simply brilliant.

What do you snack on while gaming?
Coke (the drink that is)

What is your favourite and least favourite aspect of the Blitz website?
I really like the challenge of playing real people and, so far, everyone has been really friendly. No real downs so far.

Do you own any war memorabilia?
No

What is the best military book you have read?
Absolute War: Soviet Russia in the Second World War by Chris Bellamy. An excellent global view of the war in Russia.

What do you think was the single most important event of WWII?
The Germans being turned back at the Gates of Moscow. If Moscow had fallen, it could all have been very different.

What is the most interesting military documentary you have ever watched?
The World at War. A predictable choice, but simply peerless.

Which is your favourite HPS PzC title?
Smolensk 41. Aggressive panzer thrusts, encirclement and desperate defence and counter attack. The first and, in my view, still the best.

Are there any war games catching your eye at present?
I'm drawn to Matrix's World in Flames. My first ever wargame was Avalon Hill's Advanced Third Reich and I have never found a computer wargame yet to match its grand scale, but this looks promising.

What piece of wisdom would you like to pass on to your fellow Blitz members?
For the Newbies, don't give up. For the veterans, be nice to the Newbies.

Yeah me too, until I played ADG's World in Flames (the board game that Paulyj alludes to being made into a PC game). WiF was the only "total war" game that I ever played over and over again. It had the right mix of detail and playability and covered the entire globe in WWII. Once I played WiF, 3R gathered dust on my shelf.
