Most interesting Market Garden full campaign for multiplayer?
Have never actually slogged through a full campaign game yet and Market Garden seems the smallest and most manageable. Which of the scenarios is most interesting and balanced for multiplayer, in your opinion? It seems like the default scenario is stacked heavily against the allies as things were historically. But part of the fun of wargaming is "what if things had been a bit different, would the outcome be drastically altered? Is letting XXX Corps move at night as in #0917_02s enough, or would folks recommend one of the other options?

I suppose I should ask if anyone wants to play, while I'm at it.

Well i to had been led to believe that the CG was stacked heavily in favour of the Germans, but unless i am playing the German side all wrong without the night fix on the XXX Corps they would have been unstoppable and with the help of the US airbourne, up to the Waal in 20 moves or so. :eek1:

So maybe i am doing this all wrong, but i am finding the 1st Airborne impossible to wear down and have been a little shocked at the slim German reinforcements i am getting (AA & Flak units), maybe they are closer to cracking than i think they are, time will tell. :chin:

My experience with the night fixes turned off for XXX corps is they reach the Waal very quickly. XXX Corps can reach the Son and start fixing the bridge by noon of the second day. Without the night fixes, XXX corps is on its way to Vegel during that night. The road from the Son to Nijmegan is rarely blocked by German units. 101 and 82 AB can easily take care of the garrisons. German reinforcements do not arrive in time. Since XX corps takes no breaks they can easily win the race to the Waal. It is just a question of bridges then.

So, consensus appears to be, player skill being roughly equal, the regular campaign is reasonably well balanced, then? I think the hypothetical scenarios involving the airlanding of the entire 52nd Air-Portable division would be too much, but what about the minor variations giving the Allies a choice of where to drop the Polish parachute brigade, for example?

I've played the Pole options campaign and found it very nice. The quicker buildup of the paratroopers in Arnhem the scenario offers was essential for the 1st Airborne's survival.

On the other hand the victory levels hurt the allies a bit and the Nijmegen bridges can blow - and if they do usually take valuable units with them - adding further to the need to be lucky.

I'd further say, as others did before, that the rule fixing XXX corps at night is essential to prevent too quick an advance by its units.

All in all a great game and my personal favourite. If you haven't found an opponent by now email me as I wouldn't mind playing it again.

Edit: Oh; Happy birthday.
