FAQ needed
:soap: I think we could really use a Frequently Asked Questions, FAQ, link at this site. There are many questions that get asked over and over again. A few examples:

Will installing a update/patch prevent me from continuing an already started game? Answer: No.
What is considered gamey? Answer: Many things but it depends on the agreement you have with your opponent.
What is HPS's policy on pre-announcing new games? Answer: They don't.
etc.

I'm sure we could collect a bunch in no time.

RE: FAQ needed
I can't think of a better person than HMCS Rosthern to undertake said task.

If you care to get the ball rolling by preparing say what you think are the top ten questions and answers and I am happy to QA the Answers to ensure they are correct.

At that point we can get Foul involved to see how to make use of this - be it HTML or a downloadable doc or TXT file.

...then we can add to the thing as we go - maybe sort and make sections.

In any case, I'll assist you (or anyone for that matter) as long as someone carries the ball. Maybe we should make sure first the club would find a home for it first.

What is it they say - a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

RE: FAQ needed
Well if we went down this route we would have to decide where the FAQ info would be located?

We try to keep the "sticky" threads to a minimum otherwise the info they contain can be lost in "clutter" and too many sticky threads compresses the rest of the forum.

We could add it to the "what players need to know" sticky thread, but would it be read then?

Anyway we are open to ideas.........:)

RE: FAQ needed
WhipOK. I will volunteer to collect the list of questions. I'll start by checking old postings and looking for re-occurring questions. If anyone out knows of a question that is frequently asked, post it here. I will write up the answers based on the answers from the postings and then forward them to Glenn for review.

This might not in the end work out, since there is not a good place to put it. There are already a lot of sticky emails. Maybe we could have it as a download. So Foul, I think the web-site administrators need to decide if this is really going to be practical before we go too far down this road.

RE: FAQ needed
I quickly went through the first 20 pages of postings and came up with these. I have seen these questions asked more than once. Are there any others?

Before proceeding with writing up an answer, we should get a decision on whether to put a FAQ on this site.

1. Will installing a update/patch prevent me from continuing an already started game? Answer: No.
2. What is considered gamey? Answer: Many things but it depends on the agreement you have with your opponent.
3. What is HPS's policy on pre-announcing new games? Answer: They don't
4. How do you print screen maps?
5. Is it better to keep units together or break them down?
6. What optional rules should I use?
7. Sometimes the game starts moving units on its own. What happened?
8. Are there hot keys?
9. Questions pertaining to HQs and supply.
10. What is patrolling?
11. How does one report a bug?
12. Which game should I buy?

I'm sure we'll find a home for it - Hell - I could put it on my website and we could link a pointer to it for that matter - but I don't want to be the owner of this info. I think the community should own it and thus having teh club administer it seems better to me - but I am sure we'll come up with something.

As much as #2 comes up plenty - I am not sure the answer belongs in an FAQ.

And I would help or provide more than a yes \ no answer to quations such as in #1.

.....anyway - a good start here Navy!

Patric,
If you go through the process and make a good FAQ file with Glenn and members reading this thread, we will find a way to host it here at the club. Foul was not saying we would not host it. He and I will just need to work out where to place it and in what format so it has enough visibility without adding clutter and poster blindness factor.

RE: FAQ needed
Indeed i am happy to host this idea provided we can find a place that it will be read, otherwise it will be a waste of Patric's time.

As for your initial ideas....
1. Good point.
2. Difficult to answer in a FAQ as there are so many different views on this.
3. No problem.
4. This info exists already https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards...?tid=43423
5. No problem.
6. This info exists already https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards...?tid=47923
7 to 12 No problem.

In my experience at the H2H section (which has a FAQ page) i was still asked these questions anyway, but maybe less times due to the FAQ page, i don't know. :chin:
