It has been said "War is sweet to them that know it not." How many of you have been in the military and how many have not?

I have spent over 20 years in the US Army. I spent about 20 of that as an M60 and M1 Abrams Tanker. As far as war, I spent a year in Iraq in 2005-2006. It is an experience that I am glad I had. I served with some great Soldiers. Infact, many of them are members here. Some active, some inactive. Warhammer11A, Warhammer11, Dynoryder, Twisted Leader, Totenkopf Dwarf, and Kodiak.

6 years US Navy 1985 - 1991. I was just about signed up to go Armor in 1985 when the Navy recruiter told me I qualified for the nuke program with its bonus money and immediate E-4. Plus my Dad had been in the Navy. So I went into the Navy. 4 years onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN CVN-72.

Dad was a Navy doctor, Submarines. USS ETHAN ALLEN, BEN FRANKLIN, and FRANCIS SCOTT KEY.

My grandfather on my Mom's side was USMC, had just finished training and was preparing to go invade Japan when we dropped the bombs and the war ended.

Funny, I don't remember ever asking if my grandfather on my Dad's side was in the military or not.

16 years in the Australian Infantry, half of that as an Assault Pioneer.
