Desert Fighting
I'm just getting into El Alamein. Any advice for a newbie to desert warfare?

RE: Desert Fighting
For the larger scenarios and campaigns it is recommended you use explicit supply to stop people charging all over the desert willy nilly. Also don't forget ZOC's are soft so surrounding units takes more effort.

RE: Desert Fighting
The lack of terrain features combined with soft ZOCs means each side can move further and do more in their turn than in other game titles. The only thing restricting movement is mines, and that is a temporary impact. Thus your defenses have to be well planned.

AT weapons are lethal since the update that allows these guns to be more disruptive to armored vehicles. Well planned AT defenses can stop an armored thrust cold now.

For historical purposes explicit supply is best used in the larger CG scenarios while the small and medium scenarios work just fine with the VST OR supply.

See the game replay in the AAR section of Enter Rommel for a taste of desert fighting.

You may like to look at my rebalanced campaign - Its playing well 20 turns to go and its a draw but maystill go either way. You can get it from tyhe scn data base or direct from me. I have played the scn twice ( once stck and one as my version ) - its excellent justthe balance was pro allied

Panzer Campaigns: El Alamein '42 - Tobruk to Alamein Alt RL VERSION

We all need to see the investment in time played is worthwhile .
This scn has been amended after having being played PBEM fully , re-balanced .

I used the alt version for the conversion ,
the game should be played with explicit supply .

1. Improved Axis mobile supply arrival and on the map esp when Tobruk is taken
2. Improved allied supply slightly but mainly in terms of more supply dumps
3. Slightly improved the Tobruk defence
4. Improved Axis morale for 15th and 21st Panzer TO A and one or two other units
to B
5. Added several more small VP locations
6. Added a Repl rate to Pz Regts and Recon Battalions to simulate
the remarkable German ability in this area
7. Converted 3 of the 6 LRDG units to partisans ( still useful ) but the LRDG
were too effective before .
8. Improved the VP for Malta , added some Pillboxes in Valetta
9. Improved 7ARMD morale to B
