RE: Sound glitch in JTCS
I was being serious -the PIAT was a spring driven device (hence boing!).

Take a look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj76mfiIa...re=related

The one piece missing here is that there was a back charge that re-cocked the spring and added to the forward velocity of the projectile, but that was a pretty minimal charge. In the video you see the instructor cock the PIAT for first time fire.

MrRoadrunner Wrote:I suggest a boing-swoosh sound. It would express the heavy spring and quiet rocket sound?

Don't you mean boing-swoosh?

I think Scud was referring to the ability of the Piat to take out Panthers and Tigers, silently.
They surely would end with a very big bang to take out a Tiger or Panther.

And, I think I remember using piats in a game and they did make a sound. It might be a coding glitch in version 1.04, that they do not?

RE: Sound glitch in JTCS
Lol, yeah we have some real comedians here alright.

I mentioned the lack of sound issue because there is obviously no sound file created for this unit. Also, it would seem logical that the other "bazooka-class" units would therefore also not have a sound file associated with them, and that won't do.

Another thing. Not only does the PIAT not make a sound when fired in game, but there is also no impact sound. In other words, the game program uses two files when a weapon is fired

1. The weapon file (sound of weapon firing)

2. The "explosion" file (could be an actual explosion, or ricochet sounds)

There are no exceptions to this.

If I just knew the name of the file the program had left "open" for these files, I could make my own. In fact, I already have two in mind, from my Divided Ground game;

Firing sound; a file called "cover."

Explosion (shot terminating sound) a file called "bomb."

I clicked "cover," then "bomb" about a half second later - sounds totally awesome. Obviously I would have to rename the file to make it work, but that takes only a few moments.

And Chuck, you could correct your bicycle sound by clicking on the "movement".wav files till you hear one that sounds like the bikes. Then, locate the helicopter sound and either delete it or move it to another folder. Now, rename your bicycle sound file to what your helicopter sound used to say. Bingo - you're done!

My problem of course is that I have no idea what file NAME the PIAT sound is "keyed" to.
Thus, what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy.

RE: Sound glitch in JTCS
Where would one go to find a specific sound?

Here are some YouTube vids:
