This is not a complaint, just a comment and possible future change.

I've played PzC's for many years now. I'm trying to learn some of the features better that I've not used alot in the past that can help my gameplay.

One thing I've noticed is with dialog boxes. The one box in particular I've been using a lot lately is the "show organization ..." screen. (you get to it through the view pop menu ... I think ... going from memory) [corrected due to feable memory :-) ]

I wish the dialog box could be expaned both horizontally and vertically and be persistent. By persistent I mean if I change the box size and expand an Army down to division or regimental level, after I close that window and reopen later, the state I left it in would remain that way. I know making a dialog box expandable is a basic "basic programming" feature since I used to do a lot of VB work; I don't know about the difficulty of changing the OOB expansions.

I would like to have this applied to other dialog boxes with these same features. Its obviously not a make or break issue but it would make it much easier in a large scenarion to locate and find units on the map or simple move to a specific unit that's been buried under a large stack of other units.

Also, a "bring HQ's to the top of the stack" button would be nice.

Other than that, I think most here know I love playing this game and whether this gets changed or not won't change that.

I can't tell you WHY the dialog resize is not somethng John can do, but I've asked for it myself and it just isn't in the works - sorry.

I too would mind a bring HQs to the top button - when we were building D85 I found Marc used to bury them on me and it was tricky tfind them and maually move them up. However, I used the Q Hot Key to located them and manually did it.

Thanks Glenn ... I had to fix an error in my post, but you got the drift.

I don't think I've ever used the "q" hot key ... but I'll try it out tonight. This is what I've been trying to do lately; use tools I tended not to use in the past ... learning new things.

The HQ's are so important to me, having a quick way to have all them pop to the top of a stack would be very useful.

Revitalizing a thread

I've returned to playing HPS games again. I see I posted a comment on this issue before but I want to try again.

Finding the HQ's can be done with the Q key so I'll drop that one. However, I would like to see if the "... Show Organization" dialog could be modified for a future maintenance patch.
I would find it much more useful if the "... Show Org..." dialog could be: 1. made to be resizable and keep that setting as persistent so you can close it and open it back to the last state you left it in. and 2. it would be very useful if you could drill down to units and double click or highlight and hit Enter to make the map center on that unit. This would help to find units for those big campaigns where you have thousand of counters to dig through to find units. A big timesaver in my opinion.

I use HPS for fun and as a learning tool and tracking units and being able to go directly to units on a big and sometimes very cluttered map would be a big help.

Having done some fairly extensive programming in a past life; making these dialog boxes retain their state is basic simple programming. At least it was in VB and C++ ... and most any basic or windows based programming I've worked with. But, I asked before to no avail. ... but try again I will. :-)

Hank,

there is a program someone wrote called Pz Stab which allows you to review OOB's in a graphical fashion. It wouldn't help with moving to a unit but it is easy on the eyes when looking at OOB info, and you can have it open along side PzC.

I know this is not exactly what you are talking about, but i always leave my HQ's on top of a stack so i can see my command structure by highlighting them and then clicking "highlight org" on the toolbar, i find the "To bottom of stack" tool under the Command menu very useful to keep my HQ's at the top of the stack when other units move into the HQ's hex. :)

Wonder if an "HQ units always on top" function could be added somewhere? I use the "highlight org" a lot.

I use highlight org all the time too. I've also started using the "Q" key to highlight where the HQ's are.
I guess my main point was to make the "show org" box more useful. It would be a great tool if you could make it keep its settings (size and organizational drilling for lack of a better term); and make it a "find unit" tool. I know there's a find unit dialog box but you need to know the proper name for it to find it whereas with the organization box all you would need to do is drill down to the unit you're looking for, click on it and have the map center on the unit and highlight it. But I know its just a wish that may not make it on a wish list.

RE: Interface comment(s)
Would there be much difficulty in putting the ACW view Leaders on top to PzC to apply the HQs as leaders and do the same thing? As long as it doesn't interfere with anything else the HQs are tied to?

RE: Interface comment(s)
Don't forget the OOB editor. You can view the organization to some detail.
