Tourneys
First, there is a two round Vietnam Tournament getting started over on SZO. Good times and some good players over there, many of whom are here as well. Go rumble in the jungle.

Second, they are planning on having a tourney hiatus over the summer, and it got me thinking about having one over here starting in maybe early June. My thought was that it would be a two-round Arab-Israeli Wars tourney since that fantastic mod is getting quite a bit of gameplay over here, and I can tell you that a fine designer is currently working on a couple scenarios for it currently. If not AIW, then perhaps Africa at War since it is a game that also quite excellent. Long War isn't really an option at this point, in my opinion.

If we go AIW or AAW, reply to the poll. I'd like to find out how many folks we might be looking at for the first SB tourney over here in a quite a long while, and would like to get only folks who are going to be willing to committ to a tourney, play all the rounds, and be fairly timely in their turnaround time.

RE: Tourneys
I'm up for a tourney, but (yes, there's always a but... Big Grin ) if it's one of the standard games. It's just my preference, nothing personal against any of the mods, since they are all fine. cheers

RE: Tourneys
If I own the game I'm up for it. I have SAW, so if AIW was the top pick I'd install it.

RE: Tourneys
Just a note guys. I am doing scenarios to support AIW mod. So we will have plenty of scenarios to choose from.

RE: Tourneys
At this point we have ~7 votes for this tourney. Obviously I'd like to see a tad more folks interested in a tourney if one were to get started here.

Sound off, gents.

RE: Tourneys
Maybe you should widen your choice of games for the Tourny?

cheers

RE: Tourneys
Perhaps.

My rationale:

I'd like to embrace a totally unique SB game for the first tourney here in a long, long while. Sure, we could go with a tried-and-true WWII tourney. I'd imagine AoTR and ES would be the most popular in a general poll. AIW has been getting some solid gameplay here, thanks to Alpha Two, and just had 10 brand new scenarios added by Ozgur, one of the finest scenario designers out there. IMHO, it would be an excellent 'debut' for a tourney here, since it's been quite a long while since there's been one.

Bottom line, I'm looking to do something a little different here at the Blitz, rather than a run-of-the mill WWII tourney, at least to start with. Over the last several years, the SB community here has really suffered from a lack of attention and initiative. I volunteered to take this position as a way of infusing a bit of energy and life back into the boards and ladders. I'd like to mix things up, try some new things. I'd like to showcase some of the most recent happenings in the SB world, and the AIW mod by Andrew is just that. It is the most innovative thing in the SB community since Frank Harmon crafted Africa at War so many years ago, except that Andrew's work took the SB Mod world to a whole new level of innovation.

If this tourney goes well, I'll try to make them a regular appearance here and open up the second one to a general vote, eliminating games as they are played...I'd imagine that ES or AoTR would probably wind up being the next one.

Thoughts or comments are appreciated, this isn't a dictatorship. I'm merely trying to put the ball back in play here at the Blitz. I do realize that I might be diminshing the number of contestants for a tourney this way. I might have to live with a smaller initial one, which might not be bad, being I've never run one.

Nothing against the mods but I would prefer to play one of the regular games

Whatsoever tourney you will start here I will take part.

Thanks in advance for your efforts. And now let's get ready to rumble....
