Team/Host/Caller
Hello all, Troll here. If at all possible could anyone with experience briefly explain how the team game mechanics work. For instance, is this a PBEM situation, and or can it be a Modem Host/Caller situation? Has anyone ever Hosted a game? In addition to a team game, I would be very interested in a F2F Hot Seat Host/Caller situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the team games I have been involved with were PBEM variety. In that situation it's just multiple players per side in your usual, albeit large, scenario. Players on one side share a password and divide up the forces amongst themselves. In more elaborate situations I have seen an over all commander for a Team issue instructions to subordinates who are then responsible for carrying them out. Can be great fun, but you have to be patient as it takes much longer than usual.

On line real time I have no experience with, sorry.

For a PBEM game of say Panzer Campaigns the file is passed from player to player each one playing his piece of the move and saving the file before passing it on, once the last player on a side has completed the move he ends the turn and emails it to the other side who do the same.

And so on........ ;)

Assuming you are talking about the HPS games, which I think call the features what you are calling them, then on a network it is fairly easy to connect them. Over the Internet, you need to know what IP address your router is using, if there is one, for the host side of things, so the caller can get in.

Actually, just reread your message and you mention Modem Host/Caller, which I think is in the older Battleground games. I played that way a few times, and it is simpler to connect - just set one as the host, give the other player the number to call, and he calls in and joins the game.

It isn't as fast as Internet but for the games it works pretty well. The big advantage of the newer Internet mode is that multiple players can join in, modem is limited to just one player joining you.
