Terrain Combat Modifiers

Terrain Combat Modifiers
I'm a little confused whether the game gives any advantage to firing from a higher elevation to a lower one. In "Parameter Data", under Terrain Combat Modifiers, attack strength appears to be equally penalized for going both uphill and downhill, at .9 of total. This seems odd to me, as an uphill position can in fact be a kind of defilade that affords protection, while being at a lower elevation increases exposure to fires. I mean, it's a matter of common sense experience that it's a lot easier to shoot effectively downhill than uphill, especially when the grade is substantial.

Just wonderin'. I'm probably overlooking something here.

RE: Terrain Combat Modifiers
On the off-chance that anyone's interested, I had a reply from Petho on the Matrix boards to this same question, and he noted that the manual entry showing a .9 modifier for fires going either uphill or downhill is apparently a misprint. According to Jason, it's .9 uphill, and 1.1 going downhill. That certainly seems right to me and closes the question nicely.

Sorry I didn't see this one earlier...but if your talking with Jason...your talking to the right guy...

I don't check these forums often enough.
Too busy trying to calculate terrain modifiers...lol...

Welcome to the club and I expect it won't be long until you want to know how firing uphill over smoke into a declivity at night with a starshell will effect morale on a late war partisan in a bunker....(:O)

Ask Jason that one....

Thanks for the kind words, Dan. It's good to be on board. I think your question would be a great lead-off for the "Let's Stump Jason" competition. :)

Best,
