For Volcano Man...
Hi Ed:
I'm registered on Volcano Mods & I'm posting here in hopes that you may see this. I'm having an awful time trying to get any Panzer Campaigns art pack files from the site over the last couple of days. I had to reinstall several of my Panzer Campaigns games. Almost every time that I try to download an art pack I get about 3/4 of the way through the download & then it stops (says it's done). When I try to open the zip file it says that the file is invalid or corrupt. I'm on slow poke AOL dial up and this is getting very :censored:! I've also tried using IE 8 to get the downloads but that doesn't work either; I get the same result. What's weird is that I can download files from other sites without a problem.
I'd appreciate any assitance that you could provide.
Thanks.

Hmm, I don't think there is a problem with your computer or connection; something must be wrong at the website. I have a couple of emails about this recently and thought it would be connections issues but now it is not adding up.
I will check it out and see what the problem is...

Well, the nearest I can tell after looking at it is that Internet Explorer 8 has some problems. I can download the files fine in other IE versions, and also in Firefox, but IE8 seems to say that each download is invalid. The solution would be to get Firefox for the time being (which is free):
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
...it has a built in download manager which comes in handy needless to say (resumes downloads that do not finish properly). Microsoft will probably update IE soon I would think to fix this problem -- I just don't see anything else it could be since, if I recall correctly, IE was just recently updated.

Ok, I just posted an announcement about it and sent out a group email. FWIW, I used to be a Internet Explorer user myself, but I switched to Firefox about a year or two ago because of all the problems with the former and because Firefox has a nice built in download manager.

Foul. Wrote:Guys,
I am using IE8 and when i tried to run the download from VMods i received the "file corrupted" message, BUT when i saved the zip download to my desktop and then unzipped it into the relevant HPS title it worked just fine. :)
So that is a workaround for IE8 users. ;)
I always save them just in case I need to re-install a game. It doesn't seem to take any longer than running them.

That is not necessary and could prove to be a problem if you do not download the latest version from VM 's site. Volcano Man regularly updates the packs to include changes HPS makes in their patches along with VM's own (and other contributors) research for OOB's and pdt tables. Playing a PBEM game with VM's _alt series but having different versions could lead to strange results.
BTW, I prefer VM's work around. Just get Firefox.
I have been using it since it was known a the Mozilla browser. It is a rock solid product.

Yup the time taken to Save rather than Run is the same. ;)

Thanks for the info! I admit that when I tested it in IE8 I selected to open the file and not to save it. In that case, the solution to the IE8 problem seems to be to save the download to the desktop, then open it from there. Otherwise, I agree with DS -- there is nothing but praise to offer to Firefox, I haven't had a single problem with it in several years of use and it has all kinds of "nifty features" that can be added with free plugins (and that come standard).
