I primarily play Squad Battles and I now have Tobruk' 41. I noticed that in comparing the screen resolutions for Red Victory vs Tobruk '41 it appears Tobruk is not ideal for 1680x1050 on a 22 inch wide screen monitor whereas for Red Victory the size of the counters, map area is perfect.
I am guessing because Tobruk'41 is an older release that the game is meant to played at a smaller resolution. What resolution do most members here play Panzer Campaigns at?
I am impressed by how well Red Victory plays and views at 1680x1050, while Tobruk'41 is very sharp and clear is much too small. Are later Panzer Campaigns able to scale up to higher resolutions?
-Any tips form the veteran here on how to get the most out of my Panzer campaigns? I already installed Volcano's mod and Map mod, I am just looking for some advice on optimal screen resolution.
- I looked at several of the titles, is there one in the series that everyone is playing at the moment?
Welcome. I am playing Panzer Campaigns on higher resolutions (1600X1200 & 1920 & 1200) than you mention with no issues. Please note this is on the 2D NOT 3D graphics. Also make certain you are using the zoomed in versions (+ & -) in the task bar.
As their are now quite a few titles you will find that there is no particular favourite as people will almost play anything here...!
All the PzC and MC games use the same graphics engine and it is totally driven by your Windows screen resolution. I play at 1680x1050, and have no issues, but am very used to the games after 10 years or whatever it has been since Smolensk came out.
There are different view settings, are you playing with a zoomed out setting maybe, which would be difficult to see anything at? Otherwise I think it is getting used to what you see, as your screen is the same size as mine along with the same resolution or it may just be personal preference.
There are a number of strategy tips floating around the Blitz on the PzC games, I would suggest reviewing those.
As to games that are currently being played, I think all of them are, even the oldest, Smolensk, gets plenty of play still. So pick the battles that interest you the most, or if there is a certain style of play you like - wide open battles, slugfests, etc, let us know that and we can give specific games that might match.
I have used 1920x1200 for at least the last eight years for PzC and have had no problems with the standard artwork for counters or the map. Modded art work is nice too at this resolution.
There is the little used full screen mode which gets rid of the hex info area so I can see all the way from Charleroi to Liege.

Here are a few screenshots. I am thinking I was just used to seeing the counters and maps visualy larger in Squad Battles.
Let me know if you think all looks well, thanks!
I added a screenshot from Red Victory as well, I am beginning to think after playing strictly Squad Battles I got used to the maps/counters in that series. It looks to me because of the scale of Panzer Campaigns, slightly smaller artwork is needed to fit everything on the map. I am sorry for my newbness:conf:
[attachment=2904][attachment=2904]Yes the Squad Battle hexes are double the size.
The Squad Battles ground hex files are 100% bigger than the PZC one's, if you go into the games Map folder you can then get the exact measurements.
The Squad Battle files have 6 hexes per line whereas the PZC has 12 per line which is double the amount.
Therefore from memory the smallest SB 2D hex file is the same width as the largest PZC hex file.
Also you appear to be using Jison's map mod but not his counter's which have more added depth.
Thanks for all the replies, I feel better now. I also didn't catch that the counter mod did not install correctly, thank you Lowlander for pointing that out to me. The new unit counters look so much better!
Thanks again everyone, looks like all is well :)

Also note that if you go to Settings, tick Hex Outlines this will result in the individual hexes looking larger as Jison mod has two faint hex outlines per hex..
