RE: MONTE CASSINO SCENARIO
I remember that Glenn S had made a post in here (probably was a couple of years ago) where he outlined how they went about creating custom maps -in other words what were the criteria etc.
In thinking about that, it might make for a decent enough reference page -so if I can find it, and then float the idea by Mr Saunders, I think I might make a page for something like that for them -as it is a question that comes up from time to time. :smoke:

Trauth116,!!
Actually, i was wondering about what kind of program-editor HPS uses to draw its maps, i always want to do that,
well i have some experience making some for people´s general and panzer general II games. but never something like panzer campaigns.

Unforunately, I can't answer that one; I don't know that I have ever read much about it; I do know that they consider it a proprietary one - so access to it is limited to HPS's own design circles.

I have vague recollections of players mod-ing the maps for the talonsoft civil war games. Came up with some new scenarios for that series. Not sure if the method would be the same. Can't remember how it was done, but there might be some ancient thread (or ancient player :) ) that might recall. Again, not sure if the map "technology" between the series makes this even do-able. I'm already up to my eye balls in HPS titles that there are so many unplayed scenarios remaining...but new ones are still irresistable :)

RE: MONTE CASSINO SCENARIO
Guys, I want to jump in here before things go any further, regarding the map editing. The Blitz is a site for promoting play of the games, and modding as allowed through the editors provided, for each game system we support. We are not a forum for figuring out hacks to the games, as a rule, especially to the point of editing maps. For now, suffice it to say that the old Talonsoft editor method does not work with PzC, although there are a lot of similarities in things.
<Lecture Mode On>
As long as there is no discussion regarding hacking the maps, or anything else not normally adjustable publically, then all is well. But if any discussion regarding hacking maps, exes or other "protected" files begins, we will have to end that part of the discussion and remove the posts from the threads involved.
<Lecture Mode Off>
So feel free to discuss the map editing and desires, but please no further than that, thanks!

Sure,!!
i never post this to start some "hacking the files" of a specific game..
just to know if some scenario or map is available in order to make new scenarios like the one im writing about here. " monte cassino"

RE: MONTE CASSINO SCENARIO
I wonder if what we're seeing here is as much enthusiasm for hacking the existing game as it is disapointment that the scope of the original game was so limited.
Salerno to the Gustav line is slow going but could have been covered by the highlights. And while the attempts to break through the Gustav line weren't very successful, they do have a very real what-if lurking in the background that is much more real than, say, the basis for the Sealion game: what might happen if you did a better job on one of the various offensives than Mark Clark did? Was Kesselring's success inevitable, or was Smiling Albert good? And was he simply good, or just a lot better than Mark Clark?
Historical simulations can't really answer that kind of question, but they can shed a lot of light on what's involved, and that's why many people play them. The slog up the entire boot to the Alps would be a quite a grind (even if covered in highlights only), but the stretch from Salerno to Anzio is quite interesting, and the airborne assault on Crete can't really compensate for what's missing. I haven't bought Salerno because it doesn't really look like good value compared to the other titles. A shame, because I really like the Italian front (probably because of a TV series that I watched when I was a kid).
If HPS came out with a dozen more scenarios for the game, some of which were played out on a campaign map of central Italy, I'm sure that would put an end to any talk of hacking map editors. The official product (and the attendant Volcano Man _alt scenarios) would be vastly superior to a first-time solo amateur production.
History is a bad joke played by the living on the dead.

The answer is no
You can build any scn you like inside any titlle you like with the map provided.
This series was never speeced as a ROLL your own game like some others.
And just to be clear, there are no plans to release the map editor which is a Proprietary tool for John Tiller and the deveopment team.
Map mods are fair game - enjoy yourself with them. Map Edits are no part of the series or supported activity. Hope you guys understand.
The scope of the game maps are part of the Promo material with each title so if your not happy with the size of a map in a title - don't buy the title. If your no happy with the scope of the maps in the series in general, feel free to move on and support a different companies games.
We plan to keep making games like this for a long while and hope to have the support of the members of this club in particular with new titles and the topic of "WHAT if after" is not even on the horizon.
Please god we'll have a new title available before Christmas and we look forward to fans of the series supporting this new game and other ttles we have in the works - titles that would not be possible if there was a map editor for the series available to the public.
Glenn
