Off topic but amazing imagery
Check this out, in HD if you can. Unless you're very well off it's unlikely you'll see even a tenth of these places in person.

Beautiful sights, but, I needed to turn down the sound to get rid of the propaganda message. Who produced this Al Gore?

RE: Off topic but amazing imagery
Soap box commentary: I find it interesting that some people love using everything that science and scientists have invented, and will take their word about everything on those topics, but will then decide they don't believe something most scientists agree upon simply because it doesn't comport with their preconceived notions. Particularly when they have no grasp of the topic themselves but rely upon similarly unknowledgeable people with vested interests for their delivered opinions.
Turn the sound down if you like; the imagery is the key. Amazing shots. I've seen a handful of those places in person... alas, not much traveling nowadays.
Best regards all,

RE: Off topic but amazing imagery
As is said, I liked the images,
:soap: When it was proven that a key scientist fudged the numbers to fit the theory, I went over to the other side. Especially when that key scientist was an early contributor of the theory.
About forty years ago I was told by a large number of scientists that the earth was about to enter a new "ice age". Twenty years ago I was told we were going to burn up into a cinder within fifteen years.
If you stopped all man made carbon you would effect "global warming" by less than one percent? That is a scientific fact.
One volcano eruption is thousands of times more than mans impact. When someone can stop a volcano from erupting that will do more than anything they will do to stop man made carbon?
And, it would not bankrupt the world. :smoke:
Plus, the "movie" took shots at the US over and over. What about the two coal fired plants that China is completing each week?
At least the US plants have to meet regulation standards? And, we would not have to shut our industry down to hold an Olympics without smog?
I've seen the other side. I've seen that the plan for reducing "man made" "global warming" is a simple system of redistribution of wealth, designed by former communist/socialist (current ones too), to reduce the wealth of capitalistic based countries. Funny ... just like the US (when we were a capitalist country).
LOL! That some people just accept the "warming" nonsense. Over the last few weeks I have dealt with the 18"s of global warming that was coated with global warming ice. Funny how this weather reminds me of when I was a kid and how weather seems to be cyclical.
Yet, a "global warming" enthusiast can say, "If it is hot it is global warming. If it is cold it is global warming. If it is dry it is global warming. If it is wet it is global warming." Yet, when one person questions the theory they are immediately put down as a nut. LOL!
I did say I watched it for imagery? ;)

RE: Off topic but amazing imagery
Maybe you were sick the day they covered closed systems in chemistry class and had the experiment where one adds a single drop of solution B to an existing solution A that tips the balance in solution B changing it color or precipitating a solid depending on the demonstration setup.
It is not about volcanoes versus man made gases, it is about when that unknown tipping point will be reached. Personally I like to brake before I am on the ice patch and sliding into the next car.

There are at least ten times as many scientists who do not believe in the "theory" as those who see it as a "religion". :chin:
I see it more as a global grab at wealth and it's redistribution than the concept of saving the planet. You find that more when you scratch the surface? Global warming nuts are like watermelons. :smoke:
I wonder if your thought mirrors those of the dinosaurs?
Or, early man going through an "ice age"?
Or, those who went through the "mini ice age" before the enlightenment?
Or, how long ago did water rain down on the Sphinx that caused all that major erosion? How much does it rain there now?
Opps! Climate change before SUV's?
If my chemistry teacher fudged the numbers to prove a point, and I knew it, I would have a reason to skip class and miss that single drop? :grin2:
I would almost find what you have to say is funny, except for the facts of what is going on in India and China at this time. And, it's possible effects on "global warming". Maybe you can stay away from volcanoes and approach the Indians and Chinese to reduce their output?
Tipping point? Only if you believe the fudged math and not in the earths ability to recover from natural or man made "issues".
In all it does not help that Mr. Gore (the greatest of the global warming scientists) still presents the "fact" that we have lost 40% and more of the arctic ice pack. Also, that a piece of ice the size of Texas is floating down into the Pacific?
Or was that the giant "land mass" of styro cups and trash that we were told exists (but recently has been much downgraded in size).
Is man a great caretaker of the earth? I do not think so.
But, if his contribution to "greenhouse gases" is less than a percent over overall natural causes I think your drop in glass is more like a drop in the ocean.
Maybe we can talk about how the US destroyed the ozone layer?
Uh, what? That came back? Shucks, it was not man and freon after all? :eek1:

RE: Off topic but amazing imagery
Ed, I'm sorry, but I'm going all over the internet trying to find references that support some of your statements and I'm not finding them. Can you supply? Specifically the "10 x's as many scientists" claim that you make. I've found a few that point to lists of scientists that don't agree with the theory, but that's it.
Also, I was under the impression that what was supposedly "fudged" didn't negate the scientific evidence that was peer reviewed (his [Hansen's] wasn't, or at least, was discovered in error upon peer review).
The real question is, will it affect gaming?

Actually none of this BS (taking no side here) has anything to do with gaming.
Please close this thread.
This is a gaming club after all.
Thanx!

RE: Off topic but amazing imagery
Erik, I agree entirely. This matter is a highly charged partisan political issue...certainly down our way...and as such has NO place in this forum.
There is a multitude of blogs where this and other such matters can be discussed. I personally frequent some.
Please close the thread immediately. I am surprised it has been allowed to go on so long!!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone with your club, but as Hawk rightly points out this is a gaming club.
So to avoid the generation of more hot air which could or could not affect global warming, I am closing this thread.
Have a good Friday everyone !
