Just back from Christchurch earthquake duties. I am buggered. Long days in shitty conditions. The city is a mess, I am sure you have seen pics and stuff on the news but thats just the tip of the problem. There are so many bodies unrecovered and under ruble from buildings. I am overwhelmed, its like a disaster movie. I keep hoping to wake up and its not real.

So for now i am back to safety in Timaru, about 150 kms south of Chch, but back on the 7th again for another shift of longs days or nights.

But for me the kids are well and safe, ex be damed. Just kidding.

So through marriage break up and this I will be away for a while longer. All the best to you guys and catch you all up when life is back to some sense of ...... the way it was before.

Hello Wig,

Isn't this the 2nd event in NZ within a year?? Hope you are as well as can be expected. One day at a time bud.

Bro!

Hang in there mate...it looks brutal.
Was supposed to be playing a benefit gig there with Salmonella Dub on the 5th...for the previous quakes!
Will be in and out of the airport going from Melb to Nelson on the 4th, don't figure that I will see very much from there though. My Chch gig is replaced by one in Dunedin, so I will be flying over your head at some point on the 5th.

I am still waiting for info on some friends that have not surfaced yet...hoping they will be OK.
My two cousins seem to be OK, though one will be rebuilding his house if he can. I am lucky that the rest of my immediate family have all moved away from that city over the years.
So many places I know well just smeared off the map :(

You are doing a fine job there bro in trying circumstances...keep it up eh, many are depending on what you guys can do to help out.

It's just too brutal...what will become of my wee hometown?
How is it supposed to get back up after this...whole CBD out of action for who knows how long...it's going to kill that city.
So sad.

2nd event in the same city in 5 months, plus a nasty jolt on 26th Dec.

First quake over 7 on scale, but 30km deep and 35 km SE of city. No major buildings collapsed, no deaths...but still a huge mess. Struck at 6.30am (or so) so most in bed or at home.

This time, 6.3 quake, only 5kn deep and centred over the port, 10km Sth of city. Struck during lunch time on a business day...Massive destruction this time and could be 300 dead in the end.
City pop. only 400 000, so that's is a brutal loss of life.
Entire CBD out of action...still more shocks to come as well...

I was born there and lived there for 26 years...it's so sad to see the lovely wee city pulverised like this.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
