Taker.....F14???
I am looking for an opponent to play as the Germans in the very large F14 scenario " 1914_1018_03s: The Graveyard of the Contemptibles" It's 190 turns and here is the scenario information:
Ypres, France, 18th October 1914: During the period known as the "Race to the Sea", the BEF was dispatched to Flanders in an attempt to outflank the German armies and to anchor the Belgian flank. As the Allies advanced east with illusions of conquest, a salient began to form around the Belgium town of Ypres. This salient on the east bank of the Yser was to initially be a bridgehead in which allied attacks to the northeast would be launched. Stiffening allied opposition attracted increasingly more German troops to the area as von Falkenhayen attempted to smash the salient out of existence and breakthrough to Calais. With the aid of the French, the BEF would valiantly hold the salient until the point of almost complete destruction; their stubborn resistance would ensure that Ypres would become the graveyard of the "contemptible little army". [Size: large.....
Default rules are fine with me.......I'm only looking for maybe 1 turn every week or two......No rush with this scenario, but I really want to try it PBEM style!!! Cheers!!
Thanks,

I took a look at this one and it's a really tough sell: 190 turns of unmitigated slaughter on a limited front with no room to maneuver; a mini Verdun. Whew!
Maybe I'm misreading the situation. What is it here that you see? jonny :smoke:

RE: Taker.....F14???
Well, rhetorically speaking, what does anyone see in Normandy 1944? Some people prefer a good slog (myself included). Ypres is a gut wrenching grind, certainly, but it has three distinct and interesting phases and a great deal of desperation as both sides push each other to the brink of exhaustion.
That said, no need to discourage anyone from playing the scenario they want to play. It would however be tough to jump directly into F14 playing Ypres though.

I was just interested in what anyone's thoughts were on this scenario and I got it. I don't believe a note from me is going to discourage anyone from playing it. On the contrary, this discussion might prompt a game being played. Still though, it is, as you say, a tough slog to go into a 190 turn scenario knowing your army is going to get wiped out! Somme 1916 anyone? :conf:

Ah well, no worries. I agree though, there probably won't be many takers for Ypres opponents. It is the unglamorous grind - throwing thousands of bodies into the grinder. I would recommend that people work gently into the Ypres. I have played the different phases of Ypres and they can be fun, it just depends on how strong someone's stomach is (the loss of life is massive).
I do have ideas on how to make Somme 1916/Verdun 1916 "fun", I just have to get around to doing it one day. ;)

Brusilov 1916 sounds like more fun; if you can take 1 million dead on both sides. :eek1:

Verdun I could see before the Somme. The only good Haig was the one who distills the scotch

Gary, I would be up for something in the medium size range in F14 if you are still interested. Let me know what your status is. Cheers, Ted. Just reply and send a private message if interested.
