Out 9 Dec 2011 - Roman Civil Wars
HPS sent out an email (authorising early info release and pre-sales), for this one.

It is too new for me to have any webpage info on it -but I suppose that all keeps things interesting for us webmaster types... :)

RE: Out 9 Dec 2011 - Roman Civil Wars
HPS is proud to announce the release of Roman Civil War, a Paul Bruffell game, published by HPS

The era of the Roman Republic and early Empire was a time of great military conflict. This period saw the Civil Wars of Julius Caesar, Pompey the Great, Augustus and Marc Antony, as well as Caesar's conquest of Gaul, Crassus' disastrous expedition against the Parthians, and Rome's push over the Rhine River and into Germania. HPS's Roman Civil War focuses on the famous battles of the years 55BC to 10AD where legionary fought wild barbarian tribesmen, Parthian horse archers, and all too often, other legionaries.

It was in these wars that the Imperial Roman army would be forged. The basic legionary unit was the cohort, supported by various auxiliary forces.

The First Triumvirate, 59 BC - 53 BC, saw Caesar, Pompey and Crassus divide the Roman world among themselves. But this fell apart with the death of Crassus at the battle of Carrhae against the Parthians. Caesar and Pompey then fought for supreme power, 49 BC - 44 BC. Caesar triumphed, but following his assassination the second Triumvirate of Octavian, Lepidus and Mark Anthony ruled the Republic from 43 - 33 BC. They soon fell out among themselves and another civil war was in the offing. The decisive battle of Actium in 31 BC saw Octavian defeat Mark Anthony and become the first of the emperors as Augustus. Octavian consolidated the frontiers and expanded Rome's domain in to Germania. In 9 AD the German disaster of Teutoburger Forest resulted in the destruction of three Roman Legions and temporarily halted Rome’s expansion. So ended a century of warfare.

In Roman Civil War, you choose your army, your troop types, weapons and armor, then play them against the computer AI or a human opponent. The game combines history with playability to deliver an exciting tactical level conflict on Rome's battlefields.

New features include – unique unit types, competition style battles, limited missile supply, and morale impact. All these make for a new and exciting game in HPS's Ancient Warfare series.

RE: Out 9 Dec 2011 - Roman Civil Wars
To promote the launch of Roman Civil Wars I have attached here 10 competition battles for e-mail play. Competition battles are called 'Tournament battles' in the game start up screen. This is where you are provided with 10 maps with set up zones for your army and a 12 different armies to choose from. Each map has two specific nation armies that can be used on that map who will fight each other. The specific 2 armies are listed in the scenario description for that map. Unzip the file into the game Scenario sub-folder then play the game. If you are not familiar with this new feature read the Word document included in this file. Any problems drop me a line here. Good luck and have fun.

RE: Out 9 Dec 2011 - Roman Civil Wars
Hello, considering picking this one up (already have Punic wars) Can anyone tell me what armies are inlcuded. ( Obviously Romans, Parthian, German) Any others? Also , is the game updated to Greek wars where you can (using the editor) pit any army combos vs any other ( as opposed to Punic Wars where the Roman army MUST be one of the sides) ?
Thanks!

The armies are - Caesarian Roman, Republican Roman, Parthian, German, Pontic and Numidian. You can play any army against any other as per Greek Wars. The game also has additional features beyond Greek Wars. These include Tournament battles where your own created army can be set up in zones allocated by the scenario designer giving greater flexibility to play. Also limited ammunition so players with Light Infantry slingers or archers now have limited number of shots per game. These and other new features will be added to Greek Wars in the coming months.
