RP Tools
Learned how to use RP Tools, Map Tool today. It has just as many features as Vassal plus a lot more. It can be used for real time playing as well as solo. Any map board can be created, hex, grid or other wise. Any existing counters can be imported also. Plus, the feature that won me over, is that is has a true LOS feature. It basically works using four layers and you edit (easily) the map board layer. When you play you never see the edits and get a clear indication of what your unit or counter can see. I'm using it for FNG, but games like Advanced Squad Leader or any tactical games, it would be nice to help with LOS issues.

Here is some conversation from Game Squad forums last fall. I haven't played any on the SK styles boards, so I'm not sure if it's supported or not.

Yes. Version 5.9.3, coming <mumble>

OK, it is to be removed in 5.9.3 - now for the big prize
How will line of site be determined?
You can't run a thread on a curved surface monitor.
Different size screens (same resolution) will give different results.
Same size screens with different resolutions will give different results.
Finally, different size screens at different resolutions will give different results.
People run notebooks, flat screen monitors, old CRT monitors, and even big screen (plasma, LED, LCD, projection, you pick the technology).
Is there a solution other than every one now has to have a copy of every map that you could conceivability play and they must be with you any time you play, even if you are on a visit to grandmother's house.
That includes third party and all those non-geo MMP maps.
Not only you but you playing opponent will have to have them too.
Will MMP produce a approved thread for use or will the thread diameter vary as it does when playing face to face?
Even if a standard thread diameter for the entire world can be defined (think metric vs. non-metric or Religous-GeoPolitical) going back to the aforementioned monitor/resolution problems still would give different results.
With no alternative if LOS is completely removed, what do the VASL Gods recommend?
Clearly, complete removal is not a solution, so what will we get in exchange because no option is not a viable option for continuing the life of VASL?

I think they are talking about removing the code and supporting data which tries to determine if LOS is blocked or not
I thought they were going to leave the thread tool there as there is nothing special to code other than drawing the line (and it works already)

It's a tool for playing board games in a virtual enviroment. Like Vassal, Aid de Camp or Cyberboard. It has a LOS feature, but it doesen't support LOS with elevations, but I gather they are working on it.
The link is in the first post under "Map Tool"
