Retiring
Guys,
I'm just going to finish the three games that I am busy with before retiring from gaming. I have made this decision a few months ago close to the end of 2011 but then decided to see whether things won't change in the new year. I'm afraid it didn't. I have too little time to play at this stage. It forces me into playing late in the evening and then I find myself struggling to stay awake to finish my turns. The result is that my turn rate is slow at times and/or the quality of the effort/thought that I put into a turn takes a dip.
It will take me a fair number of weeks or even months to finish the games I'm currently playing, but after that I'm gone. Maybe it's only for a few months before I decide to returns. I'll see how it goes.
Be assured that I will still hang around on the forums, which I normally do during lunch hours from my work PC.
Thanks to all my opponents for the time we spent playing against each other. It was great fun.
Have fun and keep this great legendary game alive.
Regards
Ratel

RE: Retiring
Well hopefully we will still see you on the boards. That is what I like about combat mission, play a full turn, with replay and move plots, in 10 minutes.

RE: Retiring
That's perfectly what You should not be doing, mate - there's got to be more to life than this. I am also often overburdened with the daily chores and the stuff, struggling the same way to balance everything and then to stay awake and conscious in the evening. On occassions I even puzzle myself, being tired with my wargaming ... Then I just pause a little, forcibly if the odds are there are no other choices, but I am not commiting myself fully to the mad rat race of the everyday business. What would be next to sacrifice? Music, reading, girlfriend, friends, relatives? There has to be time and space for my addictions and hobbies, there has to be something more than a robot rolepaly.

RE: Retiring
I hear you, and agree to a certain extent. Circumstances are different for different people though. My hours, excluding working hours, has to be shared between my wife, children and normal household chores in the evenings. I normally only have about 4 hours available for all of that in the evenings. Having to choose between time with my children and games is a very easy decision for me. Up till now I have been able to follow a balanced approach where I could do both. However, over the last couple of months I just found that my energy levels could not keep up with it anymore.
I think that maybe I just need a bit of a break.

Well whatever your choice is, I'll be sorry to see you go. Always a quality game. Who knows in a couple months you will be back, and I'll have another game waiting for you.
enjoy your life.

RE: Retiring
OK, I am withdrawing my plans to retire. I am going to take on less games at any one point in time though. It makes it more manageable for me. I plan to have no more than two or an absolute maximum of three games going at the same time. The games must also not be too big. Although I like it, it takes too much time to finish a 10,000 point game turn. OK, maybe just one now and then. LOL

That sounds very familiar. How many times have I promised that to myself only to come back with even higher number of scenarios played simultaneously and an ever growing number of hostilities and opponents befriended, being handled with and handling me roughly in games, but rarely ever outside. Aw, nuts , eh?
But seriously - the level of addiction is a constant value for evry human being so beware while fighting the current one - you can always move on to something much, much worse. Let's just fight on - those are only wars that result in genuine peaceful humane interactions.
