Commanders, here's a little preview of a terrain mod under progress, adding Scandinavian style terrain (mostly buildings) to EF.

Outskirts of Viborg, with city blocks, church, industrial buildings of red brick altered from those originally with EF:

Contemporary Viborg / Vyborg:

If interested, there's a download attached to this post. Drop the unzipped folder to .../John Tiller Campaign Series/MODS/ folder, and watch the sub mod appear in the JSGME menu. Then, enable for some additional eye candy :)

It is a bit uncomplete still, but consider it as suburbs showing some new unpainted family houses still being built to allow for population moving back to Isthmus, which historically was not that far from truth:

Villages are bitmap art by Mike Amos:

Buildings such as a Western style Cathedral I nicked from WF side of things.

Work still on-going, but I thought I'd share these already as they change the look-and-feel of the terrain, from open Steppes to Scandinavia, quite nicely.

Stay tuned for more Salute

Hey Petri,

I like, I like a lot! That's good looking terrain!

Don't know if you are aware of this fact, but some years back someone made new building terrain for EFII. They didn't change the industrial or city terrain as I can remember but the suburb and village terrain had white buildings with gray roofs. The buildings also looked to be more closely huddled together in the hex. They also changed the large building terrain by swapping some of the larger buildings from RS.

I don't know where the old download for that terrain is nor do I know where my old files are or I would forward. But it was more pleasing to the eye than the grassy huts we look at in JTCS.

Thanks
Ivan the BigCigar5

I am definitively interested about the terrain mod ItB refers to. If anyone has those files please send to me. Salute

Yes, it does make a difference, doesn't it. The little red cottages made by Mike especially stand out very nicely.

WF has a variety of different terrain, from Med to Africa, back to mainland Europe. I did not look at the RS folder though, and will have a look there too.

Missing are the winter versions, to have them available before the LWM Tournament finally travels to Lapland within the next scenario! So much to do, so little time ... Helmet Smile

Nice work, but colors look too bright, they destroy the main SC color theme. I mean you can change the colors, but they have to work with the rest. Burgundy color is good, but those bright red and lemon yellow houses like from child drawings.

The rest of the work, those city buildings are very nice.

cheers

Work still on-going, he said Helmet Smile

Yet, the traditional paints are quite bright, actually:

I believe it is iron sulfide that is used when "cooking" the self made traditional red paint, there is a quite bright version usual in some areas, and then there is a darker hue often used e.g by the western coast.

I need to look what they use when making the yellow version of this "organic" paint.

Edit: zink sulfide, it seems.

Ingredients needed seem to be: iron or zink oxide, linen varnish, rye flour, water, and soil either with reddish or yellowish ochre depending what you are aiming at. There you go, you DIY guys out there...

Well, this color is nice. It is not lemon Helmet Wink

Salt. You need to add salt to the mix as well. Forgot to mention it! Maybe that is why it turned lemon? Helmet Smile

I think the guys name was Don Maddox. He made the EF terrain to be the same scale as the West Front terrain.
I may have copied his stuff to disk. But, I have to search it out.

BTW, you work is beautiful. I think the colors are great. They brighten the map up. If you want paint to be really shiny you add lead to it. By the 1970's lead base paint became illegal. But, your mod does not cover the 70's forward. Helmet Wink

cheers

Thanks, they took a long while to redo!! The yellow didn't turn out how I wanted, I need to actually paint it in better, was kinda just trying to get a trial version out to Petri, so he could see what was going on!

The whole idea is that they stand out from the terrain, to portray the tranquile little villages properly. I like them a lot as well, as they are :)
