Let's Play
Wolf Blitzer and I just finished playing Platoon Patrol. I have a Let's Play I have put together. My goal is to release one portion every other day (mainly to keep view time under 15 minutes a shot).

Just thought I would share. I welcome any feedback, criticism, etc.

RE: Let's Play
Nice vid, and I just LURV small battles like this, but I've never played Platoon Patrol..:)

1- I notice you play with ambient offmap sound ON, doesn't it drive you bananas because it gets mixed up with the on-map shooting? I always toggle ambient OFF so that when shooting starts on the game map I can hear it loud and clear.
2- The ford is the only way the Americans can get over the stream (isn't it?) so I think I'd put all my Germans on 'Hide' with short arcs at the start and only order them to start shooting when the Americans break cover to move towards the ford. That way I could cut them down in open ground.
By holding the German fire you'd FORCE the Americans to come out.
At the moment the Yanks are snug behind bocage so I wouldn't waste ammo (and give away my position) til they come out.
They outnumber the Germans, so exchanging broadsides in bocage in a battle of attrition would see jerry run out of men before the yanks.
But like I said, i've never played PP so what the hell do i know, ha ha..:)

RE: Let's Play
Actually you are correct, the game has been over a couple of days and I wont reveal the result I can say I realized I should have stayed hidden until they appeared. I also hadn't realized they could only cross in a couple of points, for some reason I thought most of the river was crossable.

I totally never thought of playing with ambient sounds off. You are correct though the sound drives me nuts, but for some reason I never thought of turning it off. I think I am going to turn it off now, so thank you for that advice :)

Now maybe I can hear the opponents troops easier.

RE: Let's Play
And you also might want to toggle trees OFF so you can see the enemy better, I always do. I know it's unrealistic but your opponent has probably toggled them off, so you should level the playing field by doing the same..;)
(I just toggle them back on for a few seconds every few turns to remind myself where they are, then toggle them off again)

PS- the Briefing for the Germans says "maintain locking fields of fire", but i'd say "Forget it!". Remember, in every game YOU are in command so you can do what you like if you don't agree with the Briefing..)
If the ford is the only crossing point just make sure every single German can see it and blast the Americans when they try to cross.

"When you're in command, COMMAND!"- Adm Chester Nimitz
"I decided to ignore my orders and to take command at the front with my own hands as soon as possible"
-Rommel (arriving in Africa 1941)
"I attribute my success on the battlefield to always being on the spot to see and do everything for myself"
-Duke of Wellington

RE: Let's Play
I am such a bad bad person. I have finished the LP, and I will post the links here. Evidently my new mail install thought the replies were spam and until someone got a hold of me I hadn't realized I had forgotten to put the links up.

Part 2: http://youtu.be/IQPkZcnizTI
Part 3: http://youtu.be/KnmTQTk3vsQ
Part 4: http://youtu.be/c9SSVzWCmeU
Part 5: http://youtu.be/E6V0zWcOOjM
Part 6: http://youtu.be/EYcnF17OUGg
Part 7 (Finale): http://youtu.be/ontIFUvNtf4

I kept all the LP's under 15 minutes. I find myself when I watch LP's if its shorter I can get through more.

Also I do like feedback :)

Congrats for keeping the yanks from crossing the ford and inflicting a 3 to 1 kill ratio on them mate, I thought you'd win and I'm surprised it ended in a draw, i've never been able to figger out the maths of the CMx2 scoring system.
In fact i think you came within a whisker of getting a minor victory if you'd killed a few more Americans.
I think the Americans absolutely needed to cross the ford to rack up big points for a win, but because you kept them from crossing they had to kiss goodbye to a victory..
I've never played that scenario and know Jack about it so I'm not really qualified to make any in-depth tactical observations except to say Wolfman's Americans seemed to play it just as i'd have done, namely use their superior numbers and firepower to spend most of the game whittling away the Germans in a battle of attrition, then make my move for the ford late in the game when the Germans were hopefully beat up enough, but in this game there were still enough Jerries alive and kicking to defend the ford.

If I'd been the German player I'd have put everything into positions covering the ford and avoided a battle of attrition by holding my fire (the enemy can't kill you if he can't see you).
Then when the Americans broke cover to move on the ford, i'd start shooting and cut them down in the open, but like I said i've never played the scen so what the hell do i know, ha ha..;)
