Smile  NC Midway player needed
hi there,

i just bought Naval Campaigns Midway and i am amazed with the game. it is just awesome. and the scenario editor is powerfull.
i have the feeling it is even better multiplayer.
that s why i wonder if there is any active player downthere.

is there ?

Hi Gogol,

It's a great game, I agree. That said, it's a bit underdeveloped. The last patch broke more things than it fixed, so you'd want to play one of the previous versions. Provisos noted, if you want to take a stab at it, I'm game, pun intended!

looks like minor issues to me.
the problem is i bought the game last week , and it is 1.02 by default... how can we play together so ?

also
i play some custom scenarios and did not experience serious issues (yet). except one : ai won't launch strike missions on me.
any idea on this one ?

Hi Gogol,

There are other problems with the beta that weren't reported in the thread that I linked to you above. In some scenarios, the game crashes when a USN torpedo hits a ship. In others, it's possible to obtain ahistorical load-outs for aircraft by manipulating the interface. Oh, and that one on the torpedo ranges being fouled up is no small potato.

It may be that you can simply install the 1.01 patch over your existing installation. Should that fail, you'd have to uninstall the game and/or delete the directory where it's located, HPS/Midway. That wouldn't be too painful. I also use the art mod that's located at the Volcano website, but that's no requirement for us to be able to play.

One of the things that I'd like to try in playing is to introduce some doctrine into the game which should shape the outcomes into ones that are more historical in character. For instance, in the early battles of 1941 and 1942:

1. The first and second strikes from a Japanese carrier division must be organized according to doctrine. That means a torpedo squadron from one carrier, a dive bomber squadron from it's sister carrier, and fighter escort from both. Search and CAP elements would come from both carriers.

2. American carriers can't coordinate strikes between ships. This would mean that the largest single strike that's possible from a single carrier is no more than a deckload of aircraft. This does not mean that strikes from different carriers can't be launched at the same time. They simply can't be part of the same package.

From Guadalcanal, onward, the IJN would have held back its torpedo bombers for the second strike. The first one would be dive bombers and escort only.

my thoughts ? you are deadly accurate , historicaly :)
but i would be a little frustrated to be forced to play with a doctrine i did not chose. i'm a player first.
by the way it is still interesting.
and it makes me wonder where is the line between historic and "What if". i mean , as soon as you do a little something that was not done historicaly , it is a "what if". and when i say "a little something" , it can be just a change in the heading of a fleet.
so , any game is a "what if" isn it ? even as soon as you throw dice , it is a what if !
